An Open Letter to Adam Lambert.

After reading Adam Lambert’s tweets in defense of the cover of his new album, For Your Entertainment, I felt it necessary to respond via open letter. I guess this sort of thing keeps happening to me. Anyway, here goes.

“Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy. It’s an omage to the past. It IS ridiculous. For those that don’t get it: oh well… Glad to have gotten your attention. androgyny. Rock n Roll.

Dear Adam Lambert,

HAY GURL! What’s shakin’, bacon? So, I just saw your response tweets on Twitter today. Nice one…yeah!

Here’s the thing though: A terrible Photoshop job and a shitty font choice doesn’t translate into “Rock n Roll.” In fact, actively trying to be “Rock n Roll” is sort of the antithesis of “Rock n Roll.”

I ‘get’ the look you were going for with this cover, but you failed to achieve this, this, or even this.

So please, don’t tell us that we just don’t ‘get’ it because your label provided a discount designer who’ll work for a dime to make you pretty and channel Lisa Frank (which, to their credit, was a nice flashback to my childhood.)

While we’re at it, it would be great if you could define an “omage.” The always reliable Urban Dictionary insists that an omage is “when you leave your boys/homies to be with your girlfriend all night,” but I happen to think it sounds more like a specific type of French omelet.
