Behold: Namie Amuro, the reigning queen of J-Pop, has just unveiled the CD and DVD covers of her ninth upcoming studio album, PAST < FUTURE.

In case you can’t tell and/or aren’t a fan, she’s ripping up the cover of BEST FICTION, her million-selling greatest hits collection from 2008, thus producing two of the greatest album covers of 2009.

I can’t wait until December 16!

Great artwork. But then Jpop is always so stylized. Back in 2000 I went to the HMV in Hong Kong and they had a whole floor of Jpop – I caressed all the stylish packaging! that was back in the days of the late great Pizzicato Five

    Love her.

omg, seriously? THAT is the best she can do 4 this album???? my god!!!! it’s just her ripping the best fiction photo!!! it’s not even different from the promo pic. god, i was totally expecting more from her. i mean, i get the concept and all, but i was expecting something a little different from the promo picture. >sigh< i am very disappointed.

To Mimi, Yes I totally agree.

This album cover would have been great for a promo billboard/poster. It would have created hype and suspense because of the unvailing theme, but for the actual album cover, I think may be a bit lazy.

I’m not an Amuro fan, but I really liked this cover…until I found out she completely ripped off a much less famous model, lol:

It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just them ripping a picture, even with similar makeup… But even the expressions are extremely similar, and the hairstyle is exactly the same!–I mean, c’mon, how common is that hairstyle, lol??

She is not a less known model. Vlada sells well~ :<

dude vlada roslyakova is one of this season’s top runway models. namie amuro is much less known in the western world (excluding japan) than vlada.

The album cover is really cathy and it questions people “why is ripping her own picture?” And the title just tells it all. The title and album cover combines and make great sense together. Namie is moving foward the future and not looking at the past. She is showing the world a brand new Namie style! But, I do agree that her make-upa and hair should been more different than her best fiction cover. I believe she should of made it a tech/robot cartoon of herself ripping the picture. Show the “future” of style and music.
