Shakira just posted the album cover for her upcoming album Sale El Sol on her Facebook.

The photo is unbelievably gorgeous, but the font is a serious problem.

I wish the font didn’t happen.

Sale El Sol will be released in November.

0011 Songwriter Confirms Promise This, Cheryl Coles First Single from Upcoming Album

According to a tweet from songwriter Chris Jackson, Cheryl Cole‘s camp has selected “Promise This” as the lead single from her as-of-yet untitled sophomore album, which is currently expected out sometime either later this year or early next.

Jackson also confirmed that the track was produced by Wayne Wilkins and penned by both himself and fellow writer, Priscilla Renea.

Wilkins, who is a part of the songwriting team The Runaways, produced Cole’s “Fight For This Love,” as well as some other incredible songs including Keri Hilson‘s “Energy” and Michelle Williams‘ “We Break The Dawn.”

In other words: Yes this is going to be another #1 smash for Ms. Cheryl Tweedy.

At long last–the rumors are true!

According to AllAccess, Rihanna will be releasing a brand new single to radio on September 14, entitled “Only Girl (In The World).” The singer also dropped some less-than-subtle hints in a tweet to Ryan Seacrest.

I love the song title. It goes along with the Last Girl on Earth Tour theme perfectly and will likely act as the closing piece of the Rated R era.

Viva la Riri!

bjork465x354 Robyn Covers Björks Hyperballad at Polar Prize Festival. I Die.

THIS IS NOT EVEN REAL LIFE RIGHT NOW.

Björk was honored tonight in Stockholm at the Polar Prize Festival. From the festival’s official website:

The Polar Music Prize 2010 is being awarded to Icelandic artist Björk. With her deeply personal music and lyrics, her precise arrangements and her unique voice, Björk has already made an indelible mark on pop music and modern culture at large, despite her relative youth.

To honor the win, the legendary Robyn covered “Hyperballad.” Hyperballad. One of the best Björk songs ever.

In front of Björk.

Robyn and Björk were in the same room together. Robyn and Björk were looking at each other. The sounds of Björk were being sung by Robyn. Björk smiles at Robyn at the end and looks a bit emotional. WHAT.

THIS SHIT IS DOUBLE RAINBOW WORTHY.

I’m teary eyed.

013 JoJo Premieres Incredible First Track From Upcoming Mixtape, In The Dark

Oh my word.

JoJo has unveiled the first song from her forthcoming mixtape (Can’t Take That Away From Me) on Rap-Up this morning, and it is HOT. FIYA.

“In The Dark,” which was co-written along with producer Jordan Gatsby, is a chilly, slow-burning grinder with enough sax appeal to be safely declared one of the sexiest things I’ve heard all summer.

I mean, what with all those whispered coos and heavy breathing throughout the bridges and chorus? CHILD, PLEASE. “I only know him in the dark,” JoJo croons to pleasurable new heights as the chorus bass beats grind and swirl against a minimal twinkling of bright piano.

The track is also heavily processed, but with that kind of intentional robot warble that says to the listener, “LOOK HERE. This is just for a cool, spacey effect. Not to mask a bad voice.” Besides, we all know JoJo can blow, so don’t get butthurt about it.

But seriously, how sick is this beat? OOF!

For fans of chilly urban a la Cassie‘s “Me & U,” Miss Janet‘s best booty jams, and any and all good fucking music.

Brava, JoJo.

30hits graphic popup New York Times: Albums Still Not Selling, Sky Remains Blue

And in today’s music news from the New York Times: No one buys albums. Everyone buys or streams singles, so if you’re an artist with an album to sell, you better have a “Tik Tok” on your hands.

However, the article does note that while singles are becoming increasingly pivotal for an artist’s success (see the chart above), snatching that top spot on the Albums chart is still a desirable feat for full impact. (Duh.)

And there you have it.
