Girl Group Mania: BeachGirl5, Parade and Bellevoxx

Living in a world without Girls Aloud is hard.

Luckily, there are girl groups continuing to pop up all across the Pop Universe. Let’s take a trip ’round and Introduuce the latest offerings, shall we?

First up is Beach Girl5, a California sun-soaked five-some that knows how to toss a ball or two around. No, but really: The girls were all former members of the Professional Volleyball AVP Tour. Then that ended, and they all just sort of looked at each other and said, “Oh, what the mess? Let’s start up a girl group!” That’s not a direct quote, but I imagine one of them must have literally said that at some point.

The group’s first single is called “Scratch,” which will be released on November 30 in the US.

The song is a record scratch-heavy (SEE WHAT THEY DID THERE) “club banging” uptempo about–I think, mutual masturbation. (“If I scratch your back, you need to scratch mine / You need to get yours, I need to get mine.”) It’s also got a video, which features the ladies doing some excitable dancing in glittery tops in a warehouse. (WATCH)

The second best bit of the song is at the 2:15 mark, when the DJ briefly turns the song into the “Cha Cha Slide” and tells us how we should be dancing (ex. “To the right,” “To the left”), but the very best bit of the song comes shortly thereafter when one of the ladies shrieks “Hike it up! So you can dance, you can dance!” I’m basically a sucker for songs that come with built-in instruction manuals.

BeachGirl5’s debut album is being produced by Antonina Armato and Tim James (better known professionally known as Rock Mafia), which is a surefire sign of at least a few very amazing songs. I mean…they did Aly & AJ‘s “Potential Breakup Song.” ‘Nuff said.

Then there’s Bellevoxx, the latest signed act to White Sox MVP (I don’t know what this means) Frank Thomas’ new label, W2W Records. In case you were wondering what a Bellevoxx was, don’t worry–the press release has got you covered:

Their name means ‘beautiful voice’ and it aptly describes the hot and exquisite sound these three young women produce.

There you go.

Aside from their hot mess official website that looks like an online dating scam, there’s not too much information on the girls. Of particular note: Raquel Houghton hails from the short lived Valli Girls, while Denisse Lara sang “One” on the Pokemon: The Movie 2000 soundtrack. Let us now remember/grasp our PokeBalls once again. (LISTEN)

Their first single, “Looking For Love,” was released on October 12.

It’s got a sugary, tropical flow that kind of bears a strong resemblance to Heidi Montag‘s “My Parade.” (Take that as you will.) The accompanying video finds the girls frolicking around the locker room of a roller skating rink, only to break into a brief sample of their next single, the club-lite “Below The Belt,” midway through the video. I’m not entirely sure if they’re likable. (WATCH)

Finally, there’s Parade, an up-and-coming girl group from the UK.

This group is truly just starting out (they’re currently touring schools in England!), but they’ll be opening for Alexandra Burke next year.

Right now, there are only a few songs for sampling, including “Perfume” (performed live) and “Louder,” which is currently streaming on their official website. Both are radio-friendly, mid-tempo R&B-ish grooves with infectious, repeat heavy choruses that are generally good and could prove to be hits further down the road. WE SHALL SEE.
