28 Kylie Minogue Performs on BBCs Radio 2, Reveals Plans for 2011 Orchestral Greatest Hits Album

Who’s ready for Kylie overload?!

This morning, Kylie Minogue visited the BBC’s Radio 2 to perform a series of acoustic tracks.

Starting with the supreme chilled version of “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” (shivers!) first performed on the Radio 1 Live Lounge series (0:40), as well as acoustic renditions of three other songs: “In My Arms” (1:24), “Confide In Me” (1:54), and “Better Than Today.” (2:00). (LISTEN)

While all of the renditions are equally gorgeous, “Confide In Me” is a particular highlight, featuring a brand new string arrangement and gorgeously haunting vocals. Then again, it’s always a thrill to hear this one live–one of my top Kylie tracks by a mile!

Later into the show, Kylie was asked if she had any plans to string together a “Greatest Hits remixed” album in the near future. “Yes I am,” she explained to Ken Bruce, “Thanks in no small part to the BBC, I’ve always loved working with an orchestra and doing acoustic sets, so we’re looking forward to putting together an album of all the various songs in this kind of way.”

She also went on to announce that the 2011 Les Folies Tour would be heading to North America, Japan and Australia. “Stay tuned to the website,” she said.

So, so, SO exciting!

MMPH.

It’s here, it’s here! It’s Joe McElderry‘s new video for “Someone Wake Me Up.” (WATCH)

Seems Cheryl Cole and my boyfriend are still in cahoots post-X Factor, as they’ve both gone ahead and released their drippy new videos on the same day! I’VE SPRUNG A LEAK.

Here are some other important things to know:

mcelderry1 A Completely Objective Review of the Video for Joe McElderrys New Single Someone Wake Me Up

+ “Someone Wake Me Up” is a tie-in single with the release of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader. As a result, the camera rudely wastes precious seconds on some stupid kids and a lion running around some magical land when it could much more effectively be trained on Joey baby’s body (crotch-level preferable).

mcelderry2 A Completely Objective Review of the Video for Joe McElderrys New Single Someone Wake Me Up

+ As one can plainly see, McEldreamy enjoys standing around dripping wet, much like how he shall greet me (naked) at the door of our palatial estate in Kensington after a long, soothing bubble bath to unwind after a sold-out concert in London. Which he will dedicate to me.

+ I have to go change my pants now.

“Someone Wake Me Up” will be released on December 5. (iTunes UK)

mermaidchezza1 Cheryl Cole: The Flood (Video Premiere)

BRINGIN’ ON THE FLAAAAAAAUUUUHHHHHD.

Oi oi…it’s Cheryl Cole‘s new video for the second single off of Messy Little Raindrops, “The Flood.” (WATCH)

Within the ex-Aloud superstar’s devastating mini-epic, Cole employs classic cinematography techniques as a way of visually harnessing the complex emotions surrounding the tortured artist’s deep, waterlogged sorrow–the most obvious of which of course being Soviet montage theory, utilizing several recurring images as a way of conveying grief through symbolism rather than direct visual narrative (as popularized in Sergei Eisenstein‘s The Battleship Potemkin).

LOLOL J/K–CHEZZA’S A MERMAID, Y’ALL.

Or a lighthouse widow or something.

“The Flood” will be released on January 3. (iTunes UK)

DCS5g Rihanna Scores Ninth Number One Single, Covers Interview Magazine, Remains Flawless and Perfect

Here we have Rihanna on the cover of December’s Interview Magazine, which will include an interview with professional douchebag/musical mastermind Kanye West.

Isn’t this gorgeous?

But hold onto your rose-colored glasses: If you liked this shot, the rest of the hi-contrast photo shoot will leave you utterly gagging (in a good way).

Additionally, MAJOR congratulations are in order:

RiRi just scored her largest ever first week album sales with LOUD and her seventh #1 solo single with “Only Girl (In The World)”!

(Ninth overall counting “Live Your Life” with T.I. and “Love The Way You Lie” with Eminem).

From her Twitter:

Only Girl is no. 1!!! HOLY FUCK!!! And thx to u guys, I’ve had the biggest first week of all my albums so far! #whosloud ???? We are bitches

As a result, Rihanna is now only TWO solo #1′s away from joining the Top 10 artists with most #1 singles of all time.

Oh, na na na!

kerihilson Keri Hilson: Pretty Girl Rock (Cahill Remix)

You know when you totally love a song, but then you’re all like “Oh man, what if this song were sped up with some BLAZING BEATS for when I’m working on my fitness and/or getting roofied on the dance floor?”

This is why UK dance group Cahill are FANTASTIC. Because Cahill answers that lingering question by taking the songs that you love, speeding them up to near Alvin and The Chipmunks proportions, and then shoving some beats STRAIGHT up their bass!

Case in point? Their most amazelicious remix of Mariah Carey‘s “Obsessed” from last year. (Who else had fun attempting to sing this one as fast as they could to keep up before getting asthma? I know I did!)

Now, we’ve got Miss Keri Baby‘s deliciously empowering new single, “Pretty Girl Rock.”

Totally fun and fabulous, right? I wonder what would happen if we put a little pep into Hilson’s pretty girl step… (LISTEN)

Conclusion: EVEN. MORE. AMAZING.

UtadaHikaruSingleCollectionVol2 Release of The Week: Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 2

If you happen to be a fan of music that is both (A) amazing and (B) of the highest quality, I strongly suggest purchasing Utada Hikaru‘s second greatest hits compilation: Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 2.

Though the cover art isn’t all that interesting (see above), the contents are utterly out of this world. (Thus the cover art?)

The collection includes twelve of Utada’s latest singles, from 2004′s “Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro” to 2008′s “Prisoner of Love.”

The album also comes with five newly recorded tracks, including “Goodbye Happiness,” which is not only an amazing song, but arguably one of the most hilarious music videos of the year.

My copy’s headed my way in the mail right now–yet another CD to add to the growing collection!

Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 2 is released on November 24. (iTunes Japan) (CDJapan)

nickicover 475x475 Nicki Minaj: Pink Friday (Album Review)

I first discovered Nicki Minaj back in December of 2009 through a promotional video for “Itty Bitty Piggy,” one of the tracks off of Minaj’s 2009 mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty.

Gum snapping, eyes rolling, breasticles ready to burst from her tight blouse at any given moment–I knew it was love at first sight.

World Music Awards Monte Carlo Monaco 1999 britney spears 16538388 700 1081 Daily B: The Tribute to Cher at the 1999 World Music Awards

I tweeted this one yesterday, but I feel like no one was around to notice. I have to start pretending I have a life on the weekends…

Anyway–flashback post!

Back in 1999, Britney performed her cover of Cher‘s “The Beat Goes On” live at the World Music Awards. (WATCH)

Though visibly nervous (only 18 at the time!) and stuck with one of the worst wigs of her career (a foreshadowing for the 2007 VMA’s and onward), the Holy Spearit managed to absolutely nail the track with her superb, deeply under-appreciated natural lower vocal range.

I love me some B Girl signature baby voice (“3,” “If U Seek Amy”), but DAMN do I love it when she lets that soulful sound shine! “Let Go,” anyone?

With William Orbit and Rusko on board for Album #7, here’s to hoping that Brit Brit can bare it all on a few numbers as well.
