Ladies and ladyboys, meet singer-songwriter Carrie Mac.
Having just come off tour opening for X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, the multi-talented UK songstress (she plays violin, guitar and piano…plus the ocarina to boot!) is now gearing up to begin her official debut.
On April 18, Miss Mac will take a crack (too fun, too fun) at tearing up the charts with her debut single, “Till I See You Again.”
The song, a piano ‘n’ strings pop number, is chock full of radio-friendly appeal, playing somewhere in between the ranks of a modern R&B-tinged mid-tempo (Keri Hilson‘s “Energy”) and the power pop balladry of yesteryear (I’m hearing a touch of Celine Dion‘s “Power of Love” in the chorus).
Given her track record thus far, it certainly seems as though Mac could make a dent in the UK Singles Chart: Last year Mac released a gorgeous ballad called “Hello” for digital sale in Scotland (now available worldwide–watch her perform the song live) that managed to crack the Top 40 without any promotion.
“A few years ago I wasn’t ready for this. But now I feel I can deal with whatever is thrown at me now. It’s time for me to show people I can sing live, write my own songs and play my own instruments. This is a long overdue, here I am,†Mac says of her forthcoming debut.
With any luck, it’ll be worth the wait!
“Till I See You Again” will be released on April 18. (iTunes)
BadMediaKarma strikes again!
Check out a brand new 45-second clip of “Scary,” the Japanese bonus track from Femme Fatale produced by Fraser T. Smith (“Trouble For Me”), and the last track left to leak from the album!
Um…AMAZING! “Scary” sounds like it’s going to be a massive, surging synth-pop track, along with some shades of Michael Jackson‘s “Smooth Criminal” thrown into the chorus. (Annie, are you okay?!)
Relegated to bonus track status? Simply CRIMINAL!
“I just want your body, and I only need a little time…”
IT’S RULL SCURRY, Y’ALL!
Natalia Kills has just unveiled the teaser trailer to her upcoming single “Wonderland,” and it looks…INCREDIBLE!
Between blood-curdling screams, brutal police take-downs and creepy rabbit masks, it looks as though Kills is about to give us one deliciously dark romp though her own Grimm’s Fairy Tale. This is my bloody valentine!
The full video will be released soon.
In the meantime, have you checked out the “Mirrors” sheet music contest yet?
Perfectionist will be released in April. (iTunes)
Oh, Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
After over six months (and counting!), the British disco queen’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, Make A Scene, continues to lie in limbo, facing a seemingly endless series of push-backs and delays.
As the record remains but a twinkling star in the far-off distance, it was only natural then that its contents would slowly begin to trickle out. And so they have, with the album’s latest leaks: “Starlight” and “Revolution.”
“Starlight,” produced by British pop mastermind Richard X and co-penned by Xenomania scribe Hannah Robinson, is a quintessential Sophie Ellis-Bextor production: A heaping slice of Italo-disco revivalism, coated in warm waves of synthesizers and lazily cooed vocals. It’s an incredibly gorgeous number, worthy of playing on repeat for hours on end.
For fans of the latest efforts by Annie and Sally Shapiro, “Starlight” will surely tick all the right boxes. (I’m utterly obsessed!)
“Revolution,” on the other hand, is a much more frantic production which sees Ellis-Bextor letting her hair down and getting rowdy and rebellious, along with a shout out to her legendary 2001 smash “Murder On The Dancefloor.” The track is packed with punchy beats and electro-blippy noises similar to Sky Ferreira‘s “99 Tears” (which shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise, given that both songs were done by the same producer: Greg Kurstin.)
While “Starlight” is surely the better of the two, both tracks are indicative of yet another incredible pop album from Lady Bex…that is, if it ever sees the light of day.
After performing her latest single, “Not Giving Up On Love,” on The Alan Titchmarsh Show last week, Bextor announced that her new album (which she describes as “quite doncey and up-beat”) is due to be released in May 2011. We’ll see about that.
I’m not giving up on love, Sophie…or Make A Scene for that matter!
Good evenin’, Muusers!
Life can get pretty hectic these days: If we’re not busy running to catch a train at the last second to make a meeting, we’re tapping our toes impatiently waiting our turn to snort that line of coke off a stripper’s ass in the bathroom at Denny’s.
For all these reasons and more, I’m very excited to announce the arrival of the official MuuMuse App, which is now available for free in the iTunes App Store!
This handy dandy application gives you quick, easy access to all things MuuMuse including recent Muusings, as well as all MuuMuse tweets, YouTube videos and of course…the Daily B. Plus, you can send me messages and pictures in the “You To Muu” section! (Tasteful nudes only, please.)
This is only the first version, and there’s still a BUNCH of features I’d love to include in the near future, including App-excluusive contests and interviews, as well as the ability to interact with fellow readers about all things pop!
Please feel free to leave me a comment or e-mail me with any suggestions you might have about future versions of the MuuMuse App.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! Another MuuMilestone achieved…YAY!
Put your hands up…if you love Kylie!
In celebration of the smashing success of her Aphrodite Les Folies Tour overseas, the disco diva has just unleashed the brand new Pete Hammond remix of “Put Your Hands Up,” one of the best cuts from her 2010 album, Aphrodite.
From Kylie’s official website:
Thank you all for making Aphrodite Les Folies such an amazing experience for me. Those of you who have been to a show will know that ‘Put Your Hands Up’ goes OFF! So as a tour thank you I wanted to share this 80′s-tastic remix by the legendary Pete Hammond. Enjoy!!
Pete Hammond has been hammering out stellar remixes for the past 25 years, including re-rubs for vintage Kylie cuts like “Got To Be Certain” and “What Do I Have To Do?” As a result, his spin on “Put Your Hands Up” is gloriously glittering throwback to yesteryear! Just wait until the vocal breakdown just before the 4-minute mark–pure late-’80′s production magic, 21st century style.
Is this a hint at a fourth single from Aphrodite? Hopefully so!

Snoop Dogg‘s storming the charts again, and this time…he’s doing it on the dance floor.
“Sweat” (perhaps better known in its uncensored form as “Wet”) is the lead single from the hip hop icon’s upcoming album Doggumentary, co-penned along with “Like a G6″ production duo The Cataracs.
While the chilly original version of the track has been floating around for a few months now, Snoop Dizzle’s just unleashed a brand new David Guetta re-swizzle of the lusciously raunchy tune for release in the UK (which just debuted at #16 on the UK Singles Chart) that’s positively major.
Guetta’s re-rub (which starts off an awful like Benny Benassi‘s sublime mix of Madonna‘s “Celebration” from back in 2009) provides enough fist-pumping filthy beats and almighty arena synthesizers to convert Snoop’s track from a drippy bedroom grinder to a full on, sweat-filled stadium stomper.
In fact, it was this very remix that absolutely blew my mind when I first heard it played last weekend while dancing on stage ata drag club with my entire family during a surprise 18th birthday party for my sister! (Look for that story and more in my forthcoming memoir, No, I’m Not Even Kidding You Right Now: Confessions of a Gay Jew Blogger).
To make this song even more impossibly amazing, Snoop told Rolling Stone back in December that the track was penned specifically for Prince William’s bachelor party.
Only the finest for royalty.
“Sweat” is the lead single from Snoop’s forthcoming album Doggumentary, which will be released on April 18. (iTunes UK)
