And now, the video premiere for Nicola Roberts debut solo single: “Beat Of My Drum.”

Conveniently, not only is “Beat Of My Drum” one of the best singles of the year, but one of the best videos as well.

The drummers! The glitter! The dancers! The cheerleaders! The L-O-V-E hand signs! THE BUTT THRUSTS! I can’t, I can’t, I can’t, I CAN’T! I had to grip my chair so tightly to keep from jumping up and shouting “YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!”

Watch Nicola muster up some courage onstage and dance, dance, DANCE to the beat of her drum with a gaggle of her most fashionable friends and funky dancers. Look how she turned that whole thing ’round!

Literally everything about this video is 100% amazing. Why? Because it looks completely effortless, and it’s not trying to be anything but an amazing pop video. You did it, Nicola! YOU DID IT.

Though as I said yesterday, she could have stopped with this one moment from yesterday’s preview alone:

A-fucking-mazing! Start to finish, I can find no wrong. It’s so original sounding and doesn’t take itself seriously. I need more!

Loving it! Reminds me of something from Kylie’s X. Or maybe it just reminds me of the Heartbeat Rock live performance.

Sorry, as much as I 98% agree with your critical analysis of music on this blog, this doesn’t measure up. Its rather unoriginal and nothing special.  If you notice she samples the SAME song ‘Pon de Floor’ by Major Lazer that Beyonce does in her single ‘Girls (Who Run The World). Granted, I think she samples it more effectivelly given its not such an overt replication and there’s more originality to its application, but you still can’t deny you’ve heard it before now and tying it to the former song.  The music doesn’t go anywhere and if anything the video looks ‘tired’, she has little to no personallity. Bey’s was far superior than this is (obviously given the resources, but still, regardless, better).  Not enthusiastic about it.

Welll…Diplo produced the song. So blame him for the copycat sound. BOMD uses the melody from “Pon The Floor” far better than “Girls” for, like you said, it’s not a true replecation. But still, that’s his issue and if Nicola and her team were fine with it, so am I. I’m a bit in love with the video, it’s the right vibe for the song without being overly blunt.
