SHUT THE FUCK UP AND BOW DOWN TO GREATNESS.

Madonna just unveiled the album cover for her twelfth studio album, MDNA…AND IT IS E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

But really, the artwork–shot by Mert & Marcus–is a technicolor swirl of absolute perfection, alluding to the album’s MDMA inspiration (the colors, the colors!), as well as a nod to the past. In fact, it looks like a 21st century update of her very first album shoot for Madonna!

EDIT: I’m SERIOUSLY L-U-V-ing Muuser Dam’s analysis in the comment section below: “Those effect may be test tubes, her 12 albums in 12 tubes, inspected as science subjects. All have M’s DNA in them.” Very, very clever!

I could not be more ecstatic–it’s sheer Ecstacy ecstasy!

Are you ready to take some MDNA?

MDNA will be released on March 26. (iTunes)

Yes, the visual so far is very Kylie oriented, but in a good way. But it is also reminiscent of M’s photo shoots from the past couple or four years, just like the GMAYL cover is Kylie-esque but also not unlike the Give It 2 Me single cover. After all the pursuit is to keep it Madonna while simplifying it, not trying to go somewhere new, just mix and refine everything that Madonna has been so far, and it does just that.

It takes every thing that Madonna’s past album covers stand for and puts it together in the simplest way possible. For me it is more, Madonna of Express Yourself meets Celebration graphic work but it also feels like the covers of CoaDF, AL, TB, I’m Breathless, the first Madonna album etc.
I love the way the layering in the pic works. The added fake glass effect has flattened the background, and then the letters on top separate the levels again.

I love how it is so unlike any Madonna album cover in the sense that it is mostly graphic art featuring Madonna, while it has only been the reverse in the rest of her covers.  And still, it is pretty much reminiscent of them all.

I hope we will get to see more pics of this look inside the booklet, to enjoy it without the additional work cause it looks gorgeous.
I want a limited edition that features the cover without the glass effect printed on a silver surface, inside a crystal case that imitates the glass effect!

My only complaint is that both shoots so far have an element of laziness to them. This is one of the most common poses Madonna usually strikes and on the GMAYL cover they didn’t even bother adding a bit of angle or perspective to the letters to make them a bit realistic. I don’t like these two details so far.

I also love how they both seem to go for “simple” during this era too. :)
    Just in different ways.

    Gotta love it!
    It’s like 80′s styling with a present/futuristic twist
& the colors! This definitely stands out from any other covers out right now (in a great way) :D

Wait, what do you mean? Would you please explain? I don’t get it. lol

I think MDNA not only refers to MDMA (ecstacy), but Mitochondrial DNA, the chromosomal building blocks of life…

MADONNA is overtly stating that her DNA can be found in every other pop star.
SHe is the BASE, the ORIGINAL, the FOUNDATION from which all other pop life springs.
    WORK.
