Disclosure’s “White Noise (feat. AlunaGeorge)” Gets A Video, Remains Amazing

Disclosure-AlunaGeorge

The video for one of the year’s best singles (so far!)–Disclosure‘s “White Noise,” featuring the increasingly incredible UK alt-dance duo AlunaGeorge–has arrived.

I haven’t actually written about “White Noise” yet because everyone was writing about “White Noise” at the same time when it first premiered, so I did the thing where I was like “Oh, well, I guess I can wait a little to talk about that because I’m a unique rebel,” but then I look back weeks later and I’m like “Wait, I never actually wrote about it.”

So, now that there’s an official video, I’m actually writing about it.

“White Noise” is a fantastic collaboration between two of the UK’s most promising, still-emerging dance acts, layering sugary-sweet vocals by AlunaGeorge’s Aluna Francis on top of Disclosure’s skittish UK garage beats and early House pulsations. The result is a tightly crafted, highly danceable tug-of-war, including one of my favorite lines in recent memory: “Lately, I’ve been thinking if you wanna get tough…then let’s play rough.” What can I say? I’m a sucker for tough love.

The accompanying clip follows a security guard on his way to work, enjoying his tunes and really getting into the groove on the job. It’s essentially one long, extended #GPOY, except I usually leave the fancy footwork to my bedroom alone at night in my underwear, and not creepy confines of an abandoned construction site in Detroit. But, you know, that works too!

It may not be the most thrilling visual accompaniment in the world, but there’s a sweet lil’ conclusion to the clip, so make sure to keep it going until the very end. (And for a fun scavenger hunt, make sure you’re watching carefully to find the two Disclosure faces quickly featured in the video! You’ll know ’em when you see ’em.)

“White Noise” is enjoying some massive play overseas, bounding up the UK Singles Chart to #2 last week, which is great news for AlunaGeorge as they prepare their upcoming debut, Body Music. (Right now, I’m still very much not over their superbly crafted, slinky 2012 single, “Your Drums, Your Love.”)

“White Noise (feat. AlunaGeorge)” was released on February 1. (iTunes)
