Duke Dumont featuring MNEK, “Hold On”

Duke Dumont is having a very good 2013.

Earlier in the year, the British breakout DJ enlisted one of our favorite up-and-coming pop princesses, A*M*E, to provide vocals on “Need U (100%),” an immediate dance floor classic that snagged the #1 spot in the UK in April.

He’s keeping that early ’90’s House revival coming today with a gorgeous new dance floor anthem called “Hold On,” featuring the soulful vocals of singer-songwriter/producer extraordinaire (who also happened to co-pen “Need U”), MNEK.

Unlike the predictable half-step climbs and sweat-drenched beat breaks of plenty of powerhouse DJs today, Dumont crafts delicate deep disco throbs to carry his tunes, leaning more in the direction of Disclosure and AlunaGeorge.

“Hold On” is no different: MNEK’s soulful vocals are rich and velvety-smooth, adding some major depth to the dance floor production — especially with all those gorgeous harmonies in the background. Like, damn — this cuts deep.

“You tie me up and cut me down / A symphony has lost its sound / You don’t want any labels, fables, cables killing the sound,” MNEK bellows along the hypnotic pulsations. By the time MNEK starts crooning in falsetto, you’ll be scrambling to upload this one to your iPod faster than you can say “sad disco.”

No word on whether this is an official single from Dumont’s upcoming LP or just a one-off release for funzies, but it’s certainly a solid serving of summertime sadness regardless.

Don’t let go.
