Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”: The #Bangerz Song That Will Silence The Haters

“Remember only God can judge ya / Forget the haters ’cause somebody loves ya,” Miss Miley Cyrus sagely preaches on her Bangerz lead single-turned-summer anthem, “We Can’t Stop.”

Luckily, the latest track off her upcoming album ought to supply more than enough ammunition to shut them all up.

“Wrecking Ball,” which Mileybird finally released on iTunes tonight after teasing the track weeks ago — sees the “See You Again” songstress taking a break from standing in line for the bathroom and humping various inanimate objects to serve up straight-up balladry sung straight from the heart.

Unlike “We Can’t Stop,” which relies heavily on Mike Will Made It‘s dizzying, #superturntup production (and Miley’s newfound #swag), “Wrecking Ball” relies solely on Miss Cyrus’ capable chops: That’s right — she’s not always about twerking, getting turnt up and excessive tongue action. She can actually sang!

“I came in like a wrecking ball! / I never hit so hard in love! / All I wanted was to break your walls,” Miley powerfully declares across the massive chorus, complimented by gorgeous soaring strings. The song vaguely recalls Marina And The Diamonds‘ own Electra Heart devastation anthem, “Lies” — which, somewhat unsurprisingly, was also crafted by Dr. Luke.

The perfection of “Wrecking Ball” lies in its hands-off simplicity — no trendy production tricks to be found here! — proving that Miley’s way, way, way more than a pop princess gone twerk-happy. It’s all about that yelping, arena-sized ’80’s rock ballad delivery. For those who aren’t on board the “something more urban” train, this straightforward power-pop balladry ought to whet your whistle just right.

And yes — that’s the newly unveiled (BRILLIANT) ’80’s-inspired album art for Bangerz above, featuring Miss Cyrus serving in vintage YSL. With any luck Bangerz will be issued as a vinyl as well, because this artwork begs to be displayed as a 12″.

The album’s out on October 8. Questions? Bothered? Upset? Didn’t think so.
