Sam Sparro Returns with “Hang On 2 Your Love”

No one ever said love comes easy. Sam Sparro certainly knows that.

Following the release of his sophomore studio album Return to Paradise (which included the still very amazing “I Wish I Never Met You”) last June, the soulful “Black and Gold” crooner’s returned in 2013 with a brand new (err, old?) beat: “Hang On 2 Your Love,” a ’90’s-inspired dance floor gem.

The new song is an initial taste of what’s to come from Quantum Physical Vol. 1, the first installment in Sparro’s self-produced 3-part “music mini series,” due out on September 10. (He’s having a Robyn Body Talk moment, if you will.) The concept-heavy release revolves around “futurism, science, technology and the human condition” (having a Janelle Monae moment too, if you will) and, unlike the pulsating electro-pop of his debut and the ’70’s and early ’80’s-inspired disco of his last album, the beats this time around lie purely in the 1990’s.

“Hang On 2 Your Love” builds quickly across crisp, breaking beats and glorious ’90’s House organ synth sounds, featuring the vocals of Erykah Badu collaborator, Durand Bernarr. “Hang on to your love, don’t let it go,” the soulful crooner pleads endlessly as the song reaches its euphoric climax. The infectious track is a welcome addition to the throwback disco sound of acts like Disclosure and AlunaGeorge in 2013.

The upcoming Quantum Physical collection promises to be a “melange of R&B, bass, trap house, garage and pop.” And if “Hang On” is any indication, we’ll be up on our feet all the way through.
