I can’t stop giggling. Beyonce actually just shook up the entire industry. Journalists, labels, fans…scrambling.

GO LOOK RIGHT NOW.

UPDATE: Beyoncé just uploaded a mini-documentary explaining the reasoning behind her “visual album” on Facebook.

“I miss that immersive experience. Now, people only listen to a few seconds of a song on their iPods. They don’t really invest in a whole album. It’s all about the single. And the hype. It’s so much that gets between the music and the artist and the fans. I felt like…I don’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready. From me to my fans.”

Kind of more artpop than Gaga’s ArtPop, to me.

Radiohead is an ’80s band whose huge album sales are gone and have nothing to lose, the same with Prince, not happy with their label situation. Beyonce is in her heyday right now, and so this could have really failed when big popstars are already worried about album sales dropping. She has sold 661,000 in three days on digital sales. The physical album hasn’t even dropped. No leaks, no album streaming, no single sales off the album until the 20th. Videos that go with every song. As a pop/R&B star releasing her new album when the market is already flooded with new releases, this was genius. Coming off of lackluster sales of her last album, this is even that much more amazing.

Not so much popstars, but in the rockstar realm, it’s huge and why his name is the name that comes up most that other singers/bands look to as their main influence or a huge influence on them. He is a legend and iconic for his brilliance not just as a performer but as a songwriter putting out some really iconic albums.

In Rainbows also owns the singular distinction of being the first record
widely regarded as album of the year in advance of its actual physical
release, so that doesn’t matter?. Did you miss the part where In Rainbows was released in 2007? Also did you know Radiohead was not making music in the 80′s? Did you also know that their huge album sales are not gone. Anything the Beyonce just did (5 years later, mind you) has already been outdone and totally eclipsed by Radiohead in scope. The market is always flooded with new releases but it was a novel try to make what she did sound more impressive than it actually was, which it wasn’t at all. Oh and by the by In Rainbows had made more money before it was physically released for Radiohead than their last album had made them in total. So there ya go. Obviously you knew nothing of what I was talking about. I mean to even consider what Beyonce did as genius when it had been done already and even taken further than some bullshit Itunes store… it’s ridiculous.
