“Jilted”: Moxiie Begins Anew With A Haunting Electronic Gem

It’s been fun watching Moxiie grow.

I’ve been watching the NYC-based singer-songwriter shape-shift her way through new sounds and styles for years now, from her raucous Jungle Pop EP to her debut LP Savage to the dancehall-leaning ScandiRara EP to “Dancing In Dirt” and “Anyway.” And with each release, like a Christina Aguilera retrospective, she just keeps getting better.

But all of those previous projects have formally come to a close, and the first taste of what’s to come from the fiercely determined songstress has arrived in the form of “Jilted” — one of her strongest tracks to date.

It may actually be her best song? Yes, I believe it is.

Produced by Fredro who, apart from working with Moxiie, is also responsible for crafting one of Namie Amuro‘s best songs ever (“Hands On Me”) and one of Jessica Mauboy‘s best songs ever (“Maze”), the electronic, ever-so-slightly island-tinged midtempo gem sees Moxiie taking on the one who left her behind.

But it’s when that explosive, yearning cry of a chorus hits that everything truly comes together: “WHEN MY LIFE IS OVEERRRRRRRRRRRRR…” Chills! Also: “I’ll haunt you forever.” How perfectly well-timed for Halloween.

From the sleek production to the many earworms throughout (“Love you-OO-oo-OO-oo!”), “Jilted” is really a major pop moment and, like the talented artist at hand, deserves to be heard.

“Jilted” was released on October 24. (iTunes)
