Ashlee fans all over the world (I think there’s seventeen in total) joined forces and rebelled against her record company regarding the ass ugliness of her latest album cover. If you don’t remember the picture, it was this shit fest:
Accordingly, the label has listened. They’ve hired their best photoshop experts, and the result is something entirely new and exciting. It’s now this:
Insert foot in mouth anytime now.

You thought the “Little Miss Obsessive” cover was bad? Well, that’s NOTHING compared to the actual album itself. Ashlee‘s new album, Bittersweet World, is out in just a few weeks from now, and the album cover has been revealed.

You know, maybe our pop stars have been fooling us all by allowing us to stumble into an era of purposely shit-tastic album covers. If the case, let the record show that, as always, Britney did it first with Blackout.

Looks like somebody got their hands on the Effects toolbar in Photoshop for the very first time. Add a little of the “wacky” fonts featured on those free font websites, and you’ve got yourself a red hot mess known as the next Ashlee Simpson single Little Miss Obsessive, to be released digitally on March 11. Sucks too, as this could have been a strong release. But it’s Ashlee Simpson, so why bother?
I call sabotage.
I’m so, so, sorry, but I just can’t resist. It’s too addictive! Yes, everyone’s already posted it, but fuck ‘em. It’s Ashlee’s second single, “Little Miss Obsessive”, which is a severe downer compared to the LSD trip that was “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)”. She’s not a real artist, she’s a product of today’s consumerist driven society in a need for manufactured pop music to generates sales in a suffering musical economy, etc. etc. Now click below to listen!

And while we’re at it, to the left is the new promo for the upcoming album Bittersweet World. What do you suppose she’s thinking here?
I’m guessing: “So this is what my ass sounds like on the radio? …I’m intrigued.”
Or maybe she’s thinking “. . .” Probably the latter.

I don’t consider myself to have any “guilty pleasures.” My loved ones have all come to the conclusion that such a barrier does not exist for one whose idols include Britney Spears, the Minogue sisters, and assorted Asian pop stars. One doesn’t appreciate the snarkiness, but one also understands the logic involved.
But if I had to choose an artist to be my “guilty pleasure,” it would undeniably be the one and only, Ashlee Simpson. Lip-synching, faux-punk rock, and unmerited cockiness are all the ingredients necessary for the creation of Ashlee’s persona…all this I already know. Yet there’s something about her music that is undeniably delicious. I mean, come on. “La La,” “L.O.V.E,” and now “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)”? It’s hard not to secretly listen to them on a streaming website so that no one will ever know that you’ve heard it once or seventy four times. But me? Nope. I’m going to put myself out there and say that I went ahead and downloaded her “EP” of sorts, including the main single and B-Side, “Rule Breaker,” which I believe will be released with her new album. It’s an all-too sassy, knowing stomper about brawling and fighting, which of course the Orange County snot face would know nothing about. But at the same time, I just want to dance with her. And for the record, the track is incredibly Dragonette. I just compared Ashlee to a credible artist…forgive me. But it’s the truth.
Now go on and listen to the song. The download is anonymous, so don’t worry; this can be our little secret.
While I spend the rest of the night trying to wrap my head around the ever-increasing madness produced by the Spears family household,
I was most pleasantly shocked by the accompanying video to Ashlee Simpson’s Danja produced “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya).”
For her first song in about two years, the video features Simpson running around and being chased. If you smoosh together some assorted 1980′s paraphernalia, Salvador Dali’s Persistence of Memory, and the paparazzi, you’d get the general jive of the video. She looks cute, fresh, and most importantly, she’s finally put a quash on that miserable Avril-angst persona she was failing to embody for so long. You can tell that she’s eased up considerably with her desire to be taken seriously, which will do wonders for her in the long run. Just forget everything she’s released until this point.
