Tiestokaleidoscope 300x300 DJ Tiesto Bringing It With Fifth Album, Kaleidoscope.

You know how I proclaimed the upcoming Basement Jaxx album to be the “Compendium of Cool” after seeing the tracklisting and whatnot? Well, I think the duo’s been one-upped already.

Enter DJ Tiësto, renowned Dutch DJ and electronica extraordinaire. For his aptly-titled fifth studio album, Kaleidoscope, Tiesto’s teamed up with a most colorful array of artists, from electro-pop staples (Calvin Harris; Sneaky Sound System) to completely left-of-center vocalists including Sigur Rós‘ lead, Jónsi, and indie-pop/alt-folk sweethearts Tegan & Sara.

Just check out the über-awesome list o’ tracks:

1. Tiësto feat. Jónsi – Kaleidoscope
2. Tiësto feat. CC Sheffield – Escape Me
3. Tiësto feat. Kianna – You Are My Diamond
4. Tiësto and Sneaky Sound System – I Will Be Here
5. Tiësto feat. Priscilla Ahn – I Am Strong
6. Tiësto feat. Cary Brothers – Here On Earth
7. Tiësto – Always Near
8. Tiësto feat. Kele Okereke – It’s Not The Things You Say
9. Tiësto – Fresh Fruit
10. Tiësto feat. Calvin Harris – Century
11. Tiësto feat. Tegan & Sara – Feel It In My Bones
12. Tiësto feat. Nelly Furtado – Who Wants To Be Alone
13. Tiësto – LA Ride
14. Tiësto – Bend It Like You Don’t Care
15. Tiësto feat. Emily Haines – Knock You Out
16. Tiësto – Louder Than Boom
17. Tiësto – Surrounded By Light

And if that wasn’t enough to set your hearts ablaze, here is the literally amazing Masashi Muto-directed video for the first single, “I Will Be Here,” featuring Sneaky Sound System’s lead singer, Connie:

A 2009 upgrade to “The Robot”? Now that’s something I can appreciate.

Kaleidoscope is due out on October 6 from Ultra Records.

And now, the Calvin Harris remix of Mika‘s new single, “We Are Golden.”

Now I’m not even pretending that this isn’t almost entirely because I know the hipsters at HypeMachine will simply go batty for this one, but it just so happens that this mix proves to be entirely listenable once you give it a fair try. Though I’m not too keen on the single in its original form, the Harris mix makes everything okay with the helpful dollop of fuzzy synths and organ sounds.

Stay gold, Muusers.

Well then, this would be the video for Calvin Harris‘ new single, “I’m Not Alone.”

This ought to go down poorly with the National Organization for Women, not to mention the Fair Treatment Of Teddy Bears Guild.

Honestly, it’s a properly insane production. A perverse mixture of Saw, Frankenstein, “Disturbia,” and the wondrous imagination of a child. As a massive horror buff, I couldn’t help but swoon. Flinch, yes–but quickly swoon thereafter.

Not for the faint of heart: Dance and dismembering ahead.

Welcome back to the real world, Muusers. I hope you’ve all had a smashing weekend. I myself took an extended vacation into NYC, living la vie Bohème as I oft do, smoking hookah by day and selling my naughty bits by night. Don’t remember a second of the trip, but I’m sure I’ve had myself a blast. I’ve also got a tattoo of a baby llama. Not sure what that one’s all about.

And so, what have we come back to on this sunny, boring Monday morning?

madonna sidex ReanimationMost prominently, the follow up video for Madge Padge‘s latest single, “Give It 2 Me.” Warner’s been blocking the YouTube uploads like mad, so you’ll have to make your way to Perez to see the thing in its full, multi-colored glory. I don’t have anything negative to say about it, per se. It’s somewhat visually captivating, featuring M-Dolla in a wide array of high class get-ups and intruiging vintage sets. She certainly works the camera well, especially when she steals an intimate moment with an oversized lamp.

Really though, this is just a video montage of an extended photoshoot. See the picture to the left? Just…repeat it across the screen in a multi-colored, high energy fashion. There are some neat pop art effects that offer brief moments of , but it’s otherwise a meaningless promotional material rather than a story or concept. Not bad, but not worth a second glance.

Riri‘s re-reasing her Good Girl Gone Bad album this summer, which was one of the best releases of 2007, just below Girls Aloud and Britney. Most of the additions to the tracklisting are a bit shit, except for “Disturbia,” the über vocoded up-tempo stomper that most bloggers have been blubbering about worldwide. Is it this year’s “Umbrella”? Probably not, but then again, when I first heard “Umbrella” last March, I didn’t think it was going to be last year’s “Umbrella” either.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor, creator of an album with one of the greatest names ever (see: Trip The Light Fantastic), has proven me wrong and proven to remain rel2bf331bde3e4f82e01178cd9da8fe780 Reanimationevant by posting two new songs on her MySpace, “Off & On” and “Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer.” The first one sound familiar? That’s because it’s the same Calvin Harris produced song that Róisín Murphy chose to chuck off of her brilliant album, Overpowered after “creative differences.” A pop sham? Of course! One of the finest tracks of the past year, hands down. It was naturally quite thrilling to hear that there was another version floating around! Sophie’s natural, unaffected spin on the track is refreshing…especially her accent. Gotta love that reworked ending, as well. “Heartbreak…” too is wonderful, if a bit lacking. I wish it were Dannii Minogue on this one, personally.

When you become a crystal meth tweaker super pop fan, you gain an appreciation toward the art of the remix. Sooner or later, certain names stand out from the club scene, including one of the more prominent names on the dance scene for the past few years, Miguel Migs. His portfolio features a scattering of minor artists in his portfolio such as “Britney Spears” and “Madonna.” No namers.

Despite having a critically successful career as a DJ, Migs balances his remix e440d45eebc1804fcf4d57227074b0ca Behind The DJ Boothrepertoire with solo attempts; something less common from today’s remix artists. As an artist, Migs lends his talent to playing five (!) instruments into the creation of his own magical tracks. Last year, Miguel released his second album Those Things, which hit #15 on the charts and produced several club hits. This year, Those Things have gotten remixed onto a new album Those Things Remixed, due to be released in April.

The beats are an interesting fusion; there are certainly tricklings of electro pulsations, but the grooves are strictly funk, bringing to mind Calvin HarrisI Created Disco with a ’70′s emphasis. The album serves as a refreshing breather from the all too familiar thumpa-thump of the classic club track. If you’re seeking a Latin tinge to go with your dance floor heartbeat, then have yourself a download of this exclusive MP3 from Miguel Migs himself.

If that tickled your musical fancy, head on over to Migs’ self-owned record label, Salted Music, to try out more of his original album!

I talk a good game about Calvin Harris, but I don’t think I’ve actually featured any of his solo work. Because it’s irrelevant. Kidding.

“The Girls” was a song that I found so incredibly ridiculous that I knew I had to hit play once more. The song, which echoes his concerns over being fawned by millions of types of ladies, conveys deep rooted emotions regarding his inability to love everyone at once. In a bouncy little synth-rock jam. And that he doesn’t mind a little pudginess in the middle when he’s sticking it to them. The video’s a bit silly, a lot choreographed, and features none of the women he actually speaks about in the song. Hypocrisy at its finest. It also features him bouncing around nervously, some fancy footwork, and an ending that rivals the “genius” of Feist’s 1,2,3,4.

Then, the band Dragonette, who have just been unjustly dropped from their U.K. label, decided to make a naughty little cover, called “The Boys.” This move forced millions to have to choose their favorite version of the song (mainly based on which gender’s lusting they most prefer.) Naturally, I hear the bisexuals enjoy both versions. Greedy little bastards. Note the video below:

Today is a Sunday. Hate em. I hate Sundays with a passion. But the weird thing about Sundays is that I always fall into a trend of researching and discovering new artists to enjoy for the remainder of the week. But I also lie around lazily for hours at a time in my underwear, as I am demonstrating for you all now.

Brazilian synth rock/pop group, CSS, is not a band I would jump to consider at first glance. I presumed them to be more rock, less electro. But, like 79% of the time, I was completely and utterly mistaken. The band is a rich source of eclectic and unpredictable entertainment. According to the all-knowing Wikipedia, their name comes from an alleged quote by Beyonce in Portuguese, proclaiming that she was tired of being sexy. But I know it cannot be true, because B can never stop being too sexy. Anyway. You can tell that they are what they say they are: a bunch of friends, making music and having good times. And yes, okay, I’ll admit I only began to research them seriously upon seeing a picture of them at the Spice Girls concert. Pop culture and celebrity lifestyle are some of the most common themes of their work. And Myspace posts.

Oh, and P.S.: You already know them. They do the iPod Touch song “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex,” with all the lyrics about music being your relative, dating music, and other things that I certainly would disapprove of doing to music.

22956.x news cssvideo sm Cansei de Ser SexyAfter digging around, I noticed a dozen or so remixes, which are all really fantastic, and only add to the synth-crunch beats. Most notably, the Simian Mobile Disco remix, which is a frantic, disjointed utopia. As a side note: Watch for Simian Mobile Disco. They’re rapidly gaining prominence through remixes such as Björk’s Innocence and Ladytron’s International Dateline. Strangely, I thought to myself: Say now, eighties-obsessed Calvin Harris should be responsible for mixing this. One second later, I found that he indeed did!! It’s nice and retro, and reminds me a LOT of the works of Cut Copy. Some album tracks also appear below, including the song “Computer Heat” from their debut album’s first release. And continuing to prove my soon-to-be patented hypothesis that all songs containing the phrase “La La” are both addictive and uncontrollably catchy, “Alala,” follows suit. Warning: Video will cause fear.

Anyway, lots of fun to be had. Check out some good ol’ indielectro-pop!
