Two weeks ago, I presented my Top 25 Albums of 2011. Now…it’s time for the Top 50 Singles of 2011!
If the album list was tough, this was one step short of impossible, Shontelle style. Between rock-solid offerings from my favorite pop princesses, to stunning debut tracks from some of MuuMuse’s Most Anticipated artists, to throbbing dance floor bangers from DJs and producers worldwide–there was simply too much to love in 2011!
As a result, the list took a while. I didn’t sleep. I didn’t eat. I haven’t bathed. I’m literally a disgusting music-minded mess right now.
BUT NOW IT IS COMPLETE!
This is a list of 50 of my favorite offerings of the year (plus one honorable mention which was never actually released as a single.) Since I am giving like the Baby Jesus, I’ve created a full playlist of all my Top 50 tracks on Spotify. You are welcome in advance.
So without further ado, check out the full list below. Remember: If you have a problem with the final ranking, please…don’t hold it against me!
“Titanium (feat. Sia)”: The best song off of David Guetta‘s 2011 record Nothing But The Beat by a long shot–and now, an official single.
The video for the powerhouse uptempo follows a young boy (Ryan Lee, who fittingly starred in Super 8) as he runs from the law E.T. style because he’s hiding something a little–supernatural. It’s one of those videos that starts with a bang and, err, well…no spoilers up in here, but stay tuned up until the very end!
Although it’s disappointing that the Aussie alt-diva herself wasn’t featured, the clip still tells a great mini-story that works well with the song.
And while it’s still unclear whether or not “Titanium” will be making its way stateside (it would truly be the ultimate pop injustice if not!) the song’s already been serviced to much of Europe, charting within the Top 10 of dozens of countries already. Let’s make this one explode all around the world!
“Titanium (feat. Sia)” was released in December. (iTunes)
Nicki Minaj is coming back with power, power.
Ever since I first heard “Itty Bitty Piggy” back in December of ’09, I was instantly smitten with Mizz Minaj. But apart from her ALWAYS legendary guest verses (the “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” verse for Robin Thicke, to the “Bottoms Up” verse for Trey Songz, and her best to date, the verse on Kanye West‘s Monster”) I fell off the Nicki train with her mostly disappointing debut Pink Friday–a mostly pop/R&B-heavy record with little to none of the fierce ‘n’ ferocious theatrics employed in every single one of her guest verses.
Plus, that Black Eyed Peas collaboration? I was simply checked out. (Err, aside from her features on Guetta‘s new record, which I absolutely adore.)
But now something good’s brewing: Roman Zolanski, the female rapstress’ gay alter ego (as featured on Pink Friday‘s few life-slayers “Roman’s Revenge”) has taken control of the mic–and shit’s just turned ferocious all over again.
“Roman in Moscow” is the first taste of Nicki’s upcoming sophomore record: Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. And for the first time in a while, I got the tingles I felt when I first heard Minaj spitting her deviously clever rhymes with her trademark cray-zay flow: “I told you bitches last year: I’m a rap bitch nightmare,” Minaj announces of the top of the hectic beat.
“Roman in Moscow” has everything I ever loved about her early verses: The indecipherable accents (did she just say something about a synagogue?), the ridiculous enunciation, the irreverent rhymes, the mile-a-minute skills. Oh, and that “I double dog dare you, I double dog dare you!” bit? LOVE!
Roman, yo what da fuck?! This is much closer to the all killer, no filler Minaj I fell in love with years ago! Less “Right Thru Me,” more “Fuck U Silly.” Now bring it this Valentine’s Day!
Roman In Moscow by NICKI MINAJ
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded will be released on February 14. (iTunes)
Nicole Scherzipuakenikeninger has just shot a video–and this time, it’s for a brand new song!
The newly recorded track was penned by the Nervo Twins (who MuuMuse interviewed this summer), the Aussie duo responsible for such global smashes as the Rowland/Guetta banger “When Love Takes Over” and Kylie‘s “Put Your Hands Up (If You Feel Love),” amongst others.
Photos from the shoot–which took place in Xilitla, Mexico–look absolutely breathtaking so far, featuring Scherzy sitting at a moss-strewn piano near a waterfall during one scene; perched high above the jungle floor in a long white gown in another. Absolutely STUNNING!
“Try With Me,” which was choreographed by Brian Friedman as confirmed by his tweets a few days ago, is rumored to be the lead single off of the UK re-release of Scherzy Baby’s debut record Killer Love, which was originally released in March.
A Nervo/Nicole production? My body is ready. Let’s hear it!
“Don’t Hold Your Breath” was released on August 16 in the US. (iTunes)
WHERE THEM MUUSERS AT?
Last week, superstar DJ David Guetta released his fifth studio album Nothing But The Beat, which rocketed to #5 on this week’s Billboard 200 albums chart–his first ever Top 10 Billboard debut.
Just as with his last studio album, One Love, Guetta’s latest release features collaborations from some of music’s hottest hit-makers, including “Where Them Girls At? (feat. Flo-Rida & Nicki Minaj),” “Sweat (feat. Snoop Dogg),” “Night Of Your Life (feat. Jennifer Hudson)” and of course “Titanium,” the explosive Sia-penned dance floor annihilator that became an instant favorite of the year here at MuuMuse.
Nothing But The Beat is the perfect companion to a killer night out, complete with celebratory dance floor anthems, filthy-mouthed throb fests, and of course, incredibly bangin’ beats. It’s simply a must!
To celebrate the album’s release, MuuMuse is proud to be giving away 3 copies of David Guetta’s new record, Nothing But The Beat.
To enter to win a copy, you can either send me an email at muumuse@gmail.com with the subject line “GUETTA MUU” or follow me at @MuuMuse and tweet me with the following phrase:
I want to dance to NOTHING BUT THE BEAT with @MuuMuse!
Three winners will be randomly selected and notified on Wednesday, September 14. Good luck!

As the countdown trails to zero and the lights plummet into total darkness, the screen above the stage fills with the image of Spears–the Femme Fatale. Brandishing a gun, she feverishly bolts past security cameras; her signature blonde locks bobbing up and down as she scales barbed-wire fences and shoots at her pursuers as only a true Badassney could.
She is escaping–running away from a S.W.A.T. team, while deliciously dolled up in a full glitz outfit. (Don’t all super sexy assassins incorporate a little glitter into their wardrobe?)
Ultimately she’s caught at some point and wrestled to the ground, kicking and screaming all the way down. But as she’s unwillingly slammed over the hood of a police car, she glares mischievously into the windshield at us and purrs seductively: “I’m not that innocent.”
Just at that moment, the screens above the stage immediately begin to split in half and smoke pours from within as the Holy Spearit herself comes rolling in on a giant metal “Hold It Against Me” platform. Glittering, though still to dark to see her, she stands locked and loaded–awaiting the moment as the driving beat starts to pulsate through the arena. And then, although no one could possibly hear it above all the shrieking, she fires: “Hey, over there…”
Earlier this afternoon, I received a press release announcing the upcoming return of Timbaland: “Timbaland Debuts Single In Provacative Video for Raphael Mazzucco!”
Tempted by both the question of what Timbaland would be working on in these post-RedOne dark days of radio, as well as what could possibly be contained in the (amusingly misspelled) ‘provacative video,’ I inquired within. And oh, how glad I am that I did.
At the risk of being accused of laziness, I’ve–err, lazily bullet-pointed the most crucial items at hand:
• The single features David Guetta. And Pitbull.
• The single is being used in “the provocative (NSFW) video trailer” for Culo, a photobook shot by Canadian fashion photographer Raphael Mazzucco (a frequent hire for Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Issues, as well as a Victoria’s Secret coffee table book), in which “the bottom (or culo in Italian) is the new epicenter of female sexuality, desire, and empowerment.” In short, it’s a picture book of pretty lady butts.
• To top it all off, the book was “inspired by a film will.i.am made in Brazil and conceived and shepherded to publication by acclaimed Interscope music executive Jimmy Iovine.”
What. What. WHAT?!
FINALLY, a song that does proper justice to the female form–because nothing quite says female empowerment like a new club cut from Timbaland (of “Ayo Technology” fame), Pitbull (of “Hotel Room Service” fame) and David Guetta (of “Sexy Bitch” fame) in which the boys take turns merrily speak-singing about degrading women above a trashy “Calabria” rip-off beat slapped atop an ‘artsy’ trailer for a book of scantily clad models shot by a Sports Illustrated photographer inspired by Professional Annoyance/Purveyor of Shit-Pop Will.I.Am–all set into motion by Interscope bigwig, Jimmy Iovine.
Choice lyric from Timba’s new cut? Hard to make this one out entirely, but it comes at the 0:38 mark, as Pitbull happily raps:
“She does what I say, she does what I please…she lives on her knees. Ha!”
As Eleanor Roosevelt would likely proclaim: “FUCK YES! EQUALITY!”
So, congratulations boys: You’ve literally created the most offensive ensemble production of the year, worthy of making the good ol’ boys of Jersey Shore look like a set of straitlaced suitors from the British royal family.
At the end of the day, this screenshot says it best…
An ass is just [an] ass–especially a whole recording studio full of ‘em.

Dear God, she’s done it again.
Nicola Fucking Roberts, Pop Savior, the youngest member of Girls Aloud and professional Doer of No Wrong, has just unveiled the second single from her forthcoming solo debut Cinderella’s Eyes: “Lucky Day,” due out on September 18. And guess what?
IT’S COMPLETELY AMAZING.
