stooshewhataman1 Rising UK Girl Group Stooshe Gets Naughty on Love Me (feat. Travie McCoy)

Heard of Stooshe? They’re a rising UK pop trio, and the only girl group listed on BBC’s Sound of 2012 longlist. And as you can see above, they’d like to be taken seriously, thank you very much.

With effortlessly melodic, soulful voices a la En Vogue or The Sugababes and a perky power punch of personality (think a slightly more X-minded version of the Spice Girls or The Dolly Rockers), the girls have making strong waves in the UK already. After the release of their debut single “Betty Woz Gone” back in October, the cheeky trio is about to service their brand new second single on March 5: “Love Me,” featuring Travie McCoy. (Cheryl Cole, The Saturdays…is there a girl group he hasn’t worked with yet?)

With its swinging ’60′s surf-pop charm, “Love Me” is an immediately infectious, twinkling jam full of fun ‘n’ sassy lyricism and cutting hooks: “Oh, your chocolate got me melting/Baby, got me melting all my days/Let me give you double helpings/You’ll be screaming baby, baby, baby!” the girls yelp.

For those following the lewd ladies from the start just a few short months ago, you’d know that “Love Me” was originally released as “Fuck Me”–and those lyrics? Well, they were a whole lot ruder: “Free your mind…and the rest I’ll swallow!” Amazing, but hardly radio-friendly. Thus, “Love Me” was born.

I’m still not entirely sure what to make of these girls just yet–they’re either as infectiously rambunctious as the Almighty Spice in a sex shop, or as yell-y and obnoxious as Jessie J. in, well, everything–but it’s hard to deny the supreme hook-heavy pop quality of “Love Me.” So far, I’m in!

Looks like this is just the beginning for this trouble-making trio, so get yourselves acquainted now! Get ready to enter the loveeee hotel…

“Love Me (feat. Travie McCoy” will be released on March 5. (iTunes UK)

With a spunky, girlish charm as infectious as the Spice Girls in their heyday and vocal chops that’d have The Saturdays and Sugababes 4.0 shaking in their stilettos, The Dolly Rockers have remained my favorite new girl group–err, girl group in the works–since Girls Aloud.

Though it’s taken them a long, long, long time to get their show on the road (over the past two years they’ve dropped one member, replaced her, and signed under RedOne‘s record label), there’s something so undeniably irresistible about the tutu wearing, bratty British trio.

To this day, I’m still listening to “Je Suis Une Dolly,” “Gold Digger”, and “Boys Will Be Boys,” which is literally one of the best pop songs (that was never even released) of the past 10 years.

Now, as Sophie, Lucie and Daniele put the finishing touches on their long, long, long awaited debut album, they’ve gone ahead and given their ever-patient fans a lovely new treat: Their first ever cover!

Click above to watch the girls take on Demi Lovato‘s devastating ballad, “Skyscraper.” As you can clearly hear within the first few seconds, it’s absolutely fantastic.

Like, almost deceptively amazing. Like, “Oh, okay. Cool. A cover. Wait, but this is–this is fucking BRILLIANT.” And those soulful harmonies? Unbelievable! Their styling, their sound…I just love them so much!

We’ve seen some rather meh UK girl groups launched over the past few years, but I wholeheartedly maintain that the Dollys will be the ones to watch in 2012. Now, who’s ready to get Dolly Rockered?

45214 421385838004 70013788004 4988057 4532619 n The Dolly Rockers Prepare Debut Album, Land US Record Deal

The Dolly Rockers are finally getting their act together.

Minutes ago, the frilly-skirted trio posted an update on their Facebook (along with a new photo–see above!):

To our wonderful and patient fans.. We know its been a while since we’ve told you what’s been going on but as you may of guessed there have been a lot of changes in the world of the Dolly Rockers! We can proudly tell you that the official line up is Daniele Owen, Sophie King & Lucie Kay. We can also tell you that we have just signed a new deal in the US and we start working on our debut album in September.

Daniele Owen replaces Brooke Challinor, and Lucie Kay is back in the band, meaning that the girls have already undergone enough behind-the-scenes member transitions to consider themselves a proper girl band. Here’s looking at you, Sugababes! (RIP Sugababes.)

Judging from some not-so-subtle hints, I can also confirm with some certainty that the deal in the US is none other than with Cherrytree Records.

EDIT: WELL, I’M WRONG. Cherrytree Records contacted me to confirm that the Dolly Rockers have not signed with their label. Not sure why the girls tweeted back to me like that. Oh well!

Nonetheless–congratulations, ladies!

Now then, let’s have a little dans, shall we? WEEEEE.

I’ve kept my lips shut about this one–and mercifully, it’s finally arrived!

Click above to listen to the full, glorious version of “Boys Will Be Boys,” the second single from the Dolly Rockers. A proper single review will soon follow, but I wanted everyone to hear it as SOON as possible. It’s literally the best thing ever, isn’t it? I think it is.

A strong competitor for Single of ’09!

And The Dolly Rockers First Single Charts At...

POP INJUSTICE.

It’s no fault of the Rockers for not trying–the song just wasn’t play-listed on Radio 1. No radio, no charts…in fact, it’s fairly impressive how well they were able to do without broadcast support.

Whatever, onwards and upwards and all that. Now bring on “Boys Will Be Boys” (another contender for Single of ’09–trust me)!
