Meet Oh Land, the most intriguing alt/folk/indie/electro/however-the-fuck-you’d-like-to-label-this artist you’re going to hear about this year.

Oh Land, born Nanna Øland Fabricius, grew up “with an opera singer for a mother, a theater organist for a father and Björk‘s Homogenic on constant rotation” according to her MySpace. Points abound already, no?

Following the homeland success of her 2008 debut album, Fauna, the gorgeous (see above; admire cheek bones) ballerina-turned-musician made a move to Brooklyn in 2010 to take her ambitions to the next level.

Combining the quirky indie darling delivery of acts like Émilie Simon and Kimbra, the aching wanderlust of Bat For Lashes and Feist, the enchanted oddity of such legends as Kate Bush and Björk, and the gadget giddiness of Imogen Heap, Oh Land’s music sparkles with colorful influences from all over the musical spectrum, refusing to take root into just one sound.

On October 19, Oh Land will be releasing her debut major label EP. For your entertainment, MuuMuse is proud to be able to share two tracks from the set: “Sun Of A Gun,” and the “Sun Of A Gun (Ian Pooley Remix),” which breathes some pulsating new life into the original thanks to a gool ol’ disco bass line. You know how we do here at the MuuMuse.

Now keep watch and PAY ATTENTION: This girl’s going to be big.

Good news!

According to Émilie Simon‘s latest blog (well, more of a series of photos), it’s all systems go for the electro chanteuse’s next record. The singer has been working at Electric Lady Studio in New York in preparation for the follow-up to her last actual studio album, 2006′s Végétal.

I myself cannot wait. What’s everyone’s favorite Simon song? It’s got to be “Flowers” for me–a silly little tale of unrequited love in just two minutes flat!

I want to buy you flowers…it’s such a shame you’re a boy.

Time for something somewhat different. Let’s head over to a part of the world where the number one artist isn’t a man with a tattoo of a tear on the side of his face. I’m talking, of course, about Asia. Taiwan, more specifically.

Just a little while ago, I happened upon my latest discovery, Ms. Peggy Hsu. Judging by the picture above, you can tell that she is a rather pretty lady, even when hampered down by an elaborate clown costume. In fact, I see a little Mariah in her. Thankfully though, that’s not who I’m hearing.

Infused with jazzy notes and plenty of romantic accordion sounds, Peggy Hsu’s music is both pleasant and airy, perfect for a summer night’s sloppy, regrettable hook-up(s). She’s got a great, relaxing style along with her vocals, and her songs are all peaceful and fluid, ranging from bossa-nova to nearly pop. She’s a bit like Émilie Simon, though less experimental. Her 2001 debut album, Balloon, received quite a bit of fanfare when it was first released, leading to several music and lyric awards. Six years later in May of 2007, she returned with a second album, called Peggy’s Wish Box. And no, I’m not going near that title.

I highly recommend that you give her a chance by heading over to her MySpace to hear a few songs from Wish Box. There’s even some English thrown into many of her songs for good measure. Below is the song, “Pink Dress,” which is pretty representative of her poppier sound (give it a moment to load the play box).

da1de8c1abd6850b6a8c264a19136823 Introducing...Émilie Simon
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably wondering what Émilie Simon is up to lately. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be anything new. And so, I guess I’ll do some sort of summarization of who she is for those who don’t know.

Émilie Simon is sort of like the more electronic-focused Björk of France. Like Imogen Heap, Émilie’s music is organic; built from unique, crawling beats and unusual sounds found in the most remote areas of nature. As the daughter of a sound engineer and a studious little bee, she learned the in’s and out’s of music production and slowly grew as an artist. I love the fact that she is responsible for the production of her music. Despite what my most avid readers may think, I respect artists from either realm: self-produced or manufactured. Émilie sings in both French and English, and her “Greatest Hits” of sorts was released in America in 2006. Since then, not much has happened, though she did the scoring for the March of the Penguins in France which is rather exhilirating.

Her work is absolute eclecticism. It’s difficult to describe. I suppose I could throw some names in that come to mind, but they’ve already been mentioned. So try some tidbits, instead. “Flowers” is short but to the point, it’s a blink-and-you-miss-it photograph of a sweet littl7cf375e084889e07779a98aa36889b43 Introducing...Émilie Simone crush built up and destroyed within two minutes. With a bit of a stalker vibe. So essential. Then there’s “Fleur De Saison,” the moody electro-rocker filled with delicious beats. And finally, “Dame De Lotus,” the undeniably infectious minimalist electro.
