Kate Havnevik Delivers “Mouth 2 Mouth” (Single Review)

Meet Catcall.
Née Catherine Kelleher, the Australian chanteuse released her first single, “Swimming Pool,” last year to rave reviews. “Swimming Pool” is an uncanny slice of Italo disco-referencing indie dance in the vein of Sally Shapiro or the Golden Filter; the track was helmed by GLOVES, the producer who has remixed fellow down-under acts like Bag Raiders, Van She, and Kimbra.
Now, Catcall’s ratcheted up the pop on her new single, “Satellites,” a pounding piece of ‘80s nostalgia with a melodically potent chorus that invites comparisons to Ladyhawke and I Blame Coco. “Maybe we are satellites/Maybe we are meteors,” she sings over layers of melancholy guitars and resonant drums.
I first heard a clip of “Satellites” during an episode of 90210 way back in May (yes, I watch 90210; yes, I know it’s an execrable show; no, I don’t care), but it’s only just being released now — and it was well worth the wait. “Satellites” has the same kind of reflective, downbeat energy as a Xenomania ballad, with a luminous spaced-out quality that’s both referential and futuristic. Basically, it’s synth-spangled gorgeousness that’s already one of my favorite tracks this year — and it bodes extraordinarily well for her debut album, The Warmest Place, due out at the top of 2012 via Ivy League.

In case you haven’t heard, Kimberly Wyatt‘s transformed from a pussycat into a wolf.
Since the official dissolution of The Pussycat Dolls last year, the leggy blonde bombshell has embarked on a variety of exciting new ventures, including a judging role on the UK’s Got To Dance and a smash hit feature on Aggros Santos infectious springtime single, “Candy.”
But perhaps most exciting of all her current endeavors is Her Majesty & The Wolves, a dance-based musical partnership struck up between Wyatt and former member of electro-pop duo Jupiter Rising, Spencer Nezey. After the release of a buzz single (“Glaciers”), the duo premiered their first official single in November: “Stars In Your Eyes,” a thumping space-pop affair.
A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to ask Kimberly and Spencer a few questions about their hotly anticipated collaboration, which is set to explode in 2011. If you couldn’t tell from the steadily increasing amount of exclamation marks contained in each of their answers, they’re pretty excited about it. LET’S DO THIS!!!

As originally reported by The Prophet, ex-Pussycat Dolls member Kimberly Wyatt is making her first moves as a solo artist–in the form of a duo.
Her Majesty & The Wolves is the singer’s side-project with producer Spencer Nezey. Their music together is said to be inspired by “electro and dance.” Very good influences, indeed.
On August 27, Her Majesty & The Wolves will unleash their first track, “Glaciers,” as a free download on their official website. A video for the track is also forthcoming.
For now, you can download a pretty schweet mixtape on the site, which includes songs from artists including Ladyhawke, Marina & The Diamonds, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Above is our first taste of “Glaciers,” which certainly contains shades of all of the above acts. Very La Rouxvian as well, no?
If this is really the musical direction she’s heading toward, I expect some major, major surprises.

Christ on a Christmas cracker–the 2010 BRIT Award nominations are in!
I can’t believe it’s time already for the ceremony to begin once again. It seems like only yesterday I was sitting in my bed watching in disbelief as Gaga robo-danced her way on stage with pieces of shattered china plates glued to her lady bits. Ahh, memories.
As per usual (see 2009), I’ve gone ahead and bolded my favorites for the crown and added a few insightful comments and/or snooty one-liners to the end of each category.
And awayyy we go! (Thanks to The Guardian for the full list of nominees.)
Sarah Larnach, the artist behind Ladyhawke‘s album work, is auctioning off a painting on eBay right now in order to help raise funds for the Haitian earthquake crisis.
The auction in question is for an original watercolor and ink picture of two kittens (please see above), as well as a signed copy of “Paris Is Burning” and Ladyhawke’s debut album. The winner will also receive a letter of thanks signed by both Sarah Larnach and Ladyhawke.
Please see below for the full details.
HI,
I’m Sarah Larnach, and do all of the artwork for Ladyhawke. I was nominated for an A.R.I.A. for the Ladyhawke album artwork.
Excuse me for being blunt, but this is serious, and I am doing what I can to raise help.My sister, Emily Sanson-Rejouis, her husband and 3 daughters (ages 5, 4 and 2) are in Haiti right now, and only Emily and the youngest child have been confirmed alive.
I am auctioning an original painting from the Ladyhawke album/singles for charity, to assist in Haiti. This is the first time a piece of artwork from my Ladyhawke work has come up for sale, so its a rare opportunity to help, and to own something that would normally be difficult to get your hands on. Pip Brown and Sarah Larnach will also sign a copy of the single (Paris Is Burning) and album where it appears, as well as writing a personal letter of thanks to the buyer.
Here’s the link to the auction once again. Thank you for reading–please try and help in any way you can!

Interested in seeing Ladyhawke live on American soil? How about Ida Maria? Well, what about a little Semi Precious Weapons to boot? Today, Ladyhawke posted the dates for her co-headlining tour with Ida Maria across the country. Jump over the jump to see all the dates (some of which even include Frankmusik!)

filed under: Bill Hamel, DJ Chernobyl, Kim Fai, Ladyhawke, Magnetic Route, Saint Etienne

It’s the freakin’ weekend, Muusers…So why not offer up some of the finer remixes strewn throughout my mailbox? Away we goooo!
First, the Magnetic Route Mix of Saint Etienne’s “Method Of Modern Love.” The revamp issues a fairly minimal retouching, including some darker flares of bass and a series of saltshaker synths in place of the brighter notes. Still, it’s worth a go!
Then there’s the DJ Chernobyl mix of N.A.S.A.‘s “Whatchadoin?” which–as evidenced through a couple past posts (do not miss the immense Villains remix, whatever you do)–is becoming quite the remix-friendly fixture here at MuuMuse. Chernobyl’s re-mash caters to the Arular-hearted fans longing for some of that good ol’ baile funk at it’s best. Seriously, slip this one in between horn-heavy groovers like “Bucky Done Gun” and “10 Dollar” and you’d never notice the difference. Ahh, the good old days…
And finally, we have the Kim Fai mix of Ladyhawke‘s smash single, “Paris Is Burning,” a lush and building minimally moody re-rub that somewhat calls to mind the Bill Hamel remix of Britney‘s “Touch Of My Hand.”
Look–it’s not like I’m trying to reference Brit Brit in every post. It’s simply within my nature.
Deal.

Finally! It’s Ladyhawke‘s rendition of “Womanizer” from Radio 1′s Live Lounge, spruced up with a devilishly ominous stringed accompaniment and the singer’s tender vocals. I hope this does something to propel “My Delirium” atop the UK Single Charts…Approved!
