It’s becoming clear that Little Boots‘ Nocturnes may be the quiet surprise of the year.
Victoria Hesketh already brought us a few slices of splendorous dance-pop once before with Hands, her imperfectly perfect dance-pop debut in 2009 (she concedes in her Nocturnes video preview that the first album felt “overproduced.”) Now, with the help of Tim Goldsworthy, Simian Mobile Disco‘s James Ford and Hercules and Love Affair‘s Andy Butler (and the pressure of the BBC Sound of 2009 list off her back), Boots is back with a new record in May.
Little Boots ain’t lost the beat.
After unleashing a slew of happy feet-friendly dance tunes–including “Shake,” “Every Night I Say A Prayer” and “Headphones”–lil’ Miss Little Boots has just released a cover of the Bronski Beat classic “Smalltown Boy” for Ministry of Sound’s new compilation, Uncovered Vol. 4.
I hope everyone had a merry Record Store Day this weekend!
As is tradition for the past few years now, I rolled out of bed early Saturday morning, threw on a pair of pants at some point, and immediately drove to my nearest record shop to begin prowling for the Record Store Day exclusives I’ve been drooling over, including the Lana Del Rey “Born To Die” 7″, the Garbage “Blood For Poppies” 7″ and the Tegan & Sara‘s Get Along live LP. Then I drove to another shop a little further away. Then I drove to another shop a little further away. And then I found myself somewhere near Massachusetts. I even bought Katy Perry‘s “Part of Me” on vinyl at some point. Shit got weird.
Anyway, to commemorate the holiday across the pond, disco-pop damsel Little Boots released her sensational House record “Every Night I Say A Prayer” as a limited 12″ vinyl in the UK. Then she gave away a free download of the Tensnake remix on Friday. Now, she’s giving away the original version of the song for free. So giving!
While we (im)patiently await the release of Little Boots‘s upcoming single “Every Night I Say A Prayer” (crafted alongside Hercules & Love Affair‘s Andy Butler), the UK disco-pop sensation is offering up a free remix of the track. Zero dollars!
The Tensnake take on the track is full of skittering ’80′s electro-disco vibrations and a delicious freestyle flow. “Now that I found you, never gonna let you go,” the dance floor chanteuse croons above the bouncing beats. It’s anyone’s guess how much the remix actually differs from the original, but I’m going to go ahead and declare this to be one killer cut.
Now all we need is a mash-up with Girls Aloud‘s “I Say A Prayer For You” and we’ll really be in business.
“Every Night I Say A Prayer” will be released on April 21. (iTunes)
Little Boots is a busy little lady these days.
After unleashing her so thoroughly MuuMuse Approved 6-minute thumping disco dance opus “Shake” back in November, the UK electro-pop princess is back at it again with a brand new beat: “Every Night I Say A Prayer.”
The track, which was co-crafted alongside Hercules & Love Affair‘s Andy Butler (!), will be made available as both a free download on April 23 and as a limited edition 12″ vinyl on April 21, in honor of one of my favorite holidays–Record Store Day!
From the press release:
A gorgeous slinky old-school house number, ‘Every Night…’ is very possibly Little Boots’ coolest moment to date, with chanting diva hook-lines and frosty retro club production, fittingly released in cahoots with the same Chicago label that invented house music. ‘Every Night…’ consolidates her manifesto of hypnotically hook-driven, classy dancefloor gems, for pop fans and dance musos alike.
The 12″ will also include remixes by Tensnake and Joe Smooth. Boots will be playing a special one-off at both Rough Trade East in London on April 21, as well as a full set on May 4th at XOYO.
Nothing gets me going quite like the promise of lush disco tunes and 12″ vinyl releases. Absolutely cannot wait to hear this one!
“Shake” was released on November 11. (iTunes)
