Kate Havnevik Delivers “Mouth 2 Mouth” (Single Review)
Of all the Norwegian electronica chanteuses in the world, Kate Havnevik is probably my favorite. I first discovered Havnevik back in 2006 with her debut record Melankton, a dreamy collection of electronica-infused tunes produced by ...
When Mini Viva announced that they were throwing in the glittery towel back in November of 2010, a nation of Xenomaniaphiles mourned. “But what about ‘One Touch’?!” cried millions.*
Nonetheless, hope lives on with Britt Love–one-half of the super cute pop duo–as she blazes her own electro-trail as a solo artist.
Yesterday, Love posted a brand new solo song for download on her official Facebook page: “Come With Me.”
The track, which was produced by Youth Kills, borrows heavily from the hypnotic pulsations of Robyn‘s 2007 Kleerup-produced worldwide smash “With Every Heartbeat,” including a progressive sad disco stomp and twinkling synthesizers.
“This love gets stronger with all these breaths I take / Just take me away,” Love cries above the gorgeous, throbbing waves of electronica.
If this is any indication of what Love’s got to offer, it’s safe to say that the Viva vibrations will live on a bit longer.
*Guesstimation.
Download Britt Love’s “Come With Me” for free from her official website.

Fact: The Swedes are a superhuman race sent from the future to make amazing pop music.
Due to this undeniable truth, Swedish pop stars you’ve never heard of snatch wigs from your favorite pop stars for fun — just because they can. In my ongoing series, Amazing Things I’m Listening to From Sweden, I review the best Swedish exports that are currently blowing up the charts (i.e., getting blasted at ear-splitting volume in my apartment).
Le Kid – America
Pop outfit Le Kid first appeared on the scene in 2009 with “Mercy Mercy,” a thoroughly enjoyable pop gem that sounds a bit like a less sultry redux of Girls Aloud‘s single “Can’t Speak French.” But Le Kid’s ensuing singles, like the ebullient “We Should Go Home Together,” were a little too schlagerific for my taste — as evidenced by their particularly high-octane Melodifestivalen entry, “Oh My God.” Their less giddy efforts, including their striking cover of The Killers‘ perennial favorite “Mr. Brightside,” pointed in a direction of greater subtlety — and that’s exactly the stride they’ve hit with their newest single, “America.” It belongs to the same category of nostalgic midtempo dance-pop that Xenomania have mastered with Girls Aloud and Mini Viva (see “Call the Shots” and “I Wish” for more) without collapsing into schlager hysterics — and that’s something worth celebrating.
Swedish House Mafia – Save the World [feat. John Martin]
Swedish House Mafia have certainly demonstrated a track record for epic club jams, and “Save the World” is no exception. Instrumentally, it’s ground well traveled, but the dizzying euphoric heights the song builds to work just as well as they ever have. “Save the World” is further redeemed by excellent vocals from John Martin, whose voice — like a combination of Miike Snow‘s Andrew Wyatt and Coldplay‘s Chris Martin — strikes just the right balance between strength and longing. A surefire summer smash.
Therese – Drop It Like It’s Hot
This dance anthem has been kicking around online for awhile, but it’s just crossing my radar now — and I must admit that 2010 would have been a much more enjoyable year if it had included a little Therese. What starts out as by-the-numbers house music turns into a massive singalong smash by the unforgettable chorus. Lyrics are as follows: “Dance, dance, why don’t you dance like a freak/This ghetto place is so much better when you dance with me.” Now featuring a glittery remix package from house kings Wideboys, Therese deserves to join the ranks of September and Velvet among Sweden’s most prized dance divas.
Killabite – Follow Me Home
It’s ironic, yet not altogether surprising, that Los Angeles-based duo Killabite are only releasing music in Sweden, given that their brand of glitchy, gleaming dance-pop is decidedly Scandinavian in its sensibilities. I’d love to see the duo gain some domestic traction, but until then, I can still get some serious mileage out of “Follow Me Home,” a thunderous slice of futuristic pop co-written by famed DJ Axwell. Killabite’s storied pedigree doesn’t hurt, either: female vocalist Chau Phan performed backup vocals for the Holy Spearit herself on “I Wanna Go” and “Criminal.”
Those Dancing Days – I’ll Be Yours
Hipster girl group Those Dancing Days got some blog buzz back in 2008 with the release of their candy-sweet single, “Hitten,” but I would have expected them to garner more hype with the release of their sophomore album, Daydreams & Nightmares. After all, the record was produced by such luminaries as Max Martin & Shellback, as well as Patrik Berger, who has helmed tracks for fellow Swedes Robyn, Erik Hassle, and Icona Pop. Those Dancing Days exist in the same luscious retro space as The Pipettes and, to a lesser extent, Lykke Li — and “I’ll Be Yours” is as wistfully charming as anything they’ve done yet.
Release notes: “Save the World,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and “I’ll Be Yours” are all available on US iTunes — “America” and “Follow Me Home” are still awaiting US release, but can both be found on Swedish iTunes and 7digital SE.

I’ll admit it: I’ve been sleeping on CocknBullKid for a while now.
Why? It’s a shamefully silly reason, yet entirely real nonetheless: She has literally the worst stage name of all time.
No, but seriously: It reads like one of those terrible hipster bands that mass CC’s me along with every other site across the blogosphere with their awful electro-rock trash and horrible neon-colored graphics.
But CockNBullKid, better Anita Blay, is not trash at all. In fact, she’s quite brilliant.
Having released a smattering of singles a few years back as thecocknbullkid (note: not a better name), the UK songstress was soon signed to Moshi Moshi Records (Island Records) in 2009.
Blay has since released two incredible songs from her upcoming studio album due out in May, Adulthood, including “One Eye Closed” and the Lily Allen-esque “Hold On To Your Misery.” Both songs evoke dozens of musical influences, from swinging, ’60′s Motown rhythms to flares of ’80′s New Wave.
Now, CocknBullKid is preparing the third single of the bunch, and arguably the best: “Asthma Attack.”
With a sparkling synthesized beat and an entirely infectious chorus, “Asthma Attack” is CocknBullKid’s most modern sounding single yet.
As MuuMuse contributor Sam Lansky noted when breathlessly describing the song to me (you see what I did there?), there’s a certain tinge of Xenomania mid-tempo UK synth-pop balladry a la Girls Aloud‘s “Call The Shots” or Mini Viva‘s “I Wish” that makes the track all the more spiritually fulfilling.
Plus, as a boy with numerous allergies (and even more deep-seated anxieties), I find that “Asthma Attack” resonates deeply with me, leading me to tuck this one into my pocket straight away. You know, right next to the inhaler.
CocknBullKid–despite that name–is the real deal. So calm down, put your headphones on and take a long, deep breath.
“Asthma Attack” was released on March 20. (iTunes UK)
Sad news in Pop World today: The Xenomania-produced Brit Pop duo Mini Viva have officially disbanded.
The “Left My Heart in Tokyo” hit-makers just posted an official statement on member Britt Love‘s Tumblr:
First off all we would like to apologise for not being able to tell you sooner what was going on with Mini Viva. It was something we had to decide for ourselves first and of course it was a big decision.
Both of us felt like the time was up for Mini Viva. We had tried so much and so had everyone who was supporting us. But sometimes things just don’t work out the way you would like them to. We would just like to take this time to thank every single one of you for supporting us on our journey! We could not have asked for more loyal fans than you guys!
We both had the most amazing time as Mini Viva, we travelled to amazing places and met some wonderful people. We will cherish the memories forever.
We would love you to keep supporting us along our different paths. You guys and girls have been so incredibly supportive, everything we did as apart of Mini Viva we are incredibly proud of!
Thank you so much we hope you will stay in touch and support us both like you did with Mini Viva, this is far from a goodbye this is just the beginning!

With only three singles under their belt, the Viva ladies truly never had their time to shine–especially when their last single (“One Touch”) was their best offering yet! Quite sad, indeed.
Both Britt Love and Frankee Connolly are said to be pursuing solo careers at this time. In fact, Britt’s got some stuff up on her Tumblr already (“Playing The Game”) that seems quite promising.
Let us remember one last time with “I Wish.” (WATCH)
At least we’ve still got Booty Luv. Wait–WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THEM TOO?!
There is no God.
I still don’t quite ‘get’ Mini Viva as an act yet, nor am I entirely sure what market they’re trying to cater to, but I remain intrigued nonetheless.
The song seems to be a grower for sure (loving the light waves of modern disco!), but this video looks like one giant ITV commercial interlude to me.

I thought this was a rather intriguing story to hit my mailbox this morning…perhaps even one of my Muusers could enter?
Simon Fuller–the media mogul behind the Spice Girls, American Idol, S Club 7, Cathy Dennis, Mini Viva and more–is teaming up with Universal Records and MySpace to start up a talent search for the next big boy band.
The project, called The Boys Are Back in Town, is now live and looking for talent between the ages of 16 and 21 to enter and become “the next global music sensation.” According to the website, winners will be flown out to London to take part in a live audition in November.
Normally I’d scoff at this, but it is Simon Fuller we’re talking about. Is this the beginning of a new mega-band? I don’t know, but it better damn well involve Xenomania.
The Sugababes have officially cracked.
In a press release printed on their official website today, the ‘Babes announced that Amelle Berrabah will take three weeks off at a private health clinic to combat ‘severe nervous exhaustion”:
For the next 3 weeks, Amelle will be staying at a private health clinic in Europe where she will be able to rest and recuperate under expert supervision. We’re expecting her to return to work in full health by the beginning of November.
Does this actually leave enough time to promote Sweet 7? Is Amelle still going to be in the band, or is this one massive PR spin? Will Heidi and Jade will go on as the power duo to beat Booty Luv and Mini Viva?
In a related story, Keisha Buchanan was last seen running down an alley in lower London clutching a voodoo doll in hand with a print-out of Amelle’s face attached, shouting “IT WORKED. IT ACTUALLY WORKED!” before breaking into a long bout of maniacal laughter.
