Nina Persson‘s solo project, A Camp, is preparing the release of a digital Covers EP on June 9 on iTunes (June 16 for all other digital outlets), featuring just three tracks:
1. Pink Floyd – Us & Them
2. David Bowie – Boys Keep Swinging
3. Grace Jones – Done It Again
Short but sweet.
I know they’ve been performing “Done It Again” live, and I’m dying to hear it in the studio setting!

A Camp is currently touring, so check out the tour dates here. And finally, click below to hear more from Nina and the boys!

If you hadn’t already heard, Danger Mouse has just put out a new record.
Well, not entirely: Danger Mouse has finished a collaborative album with Sparklehorse, aided by the photographic accompaniment of acclaimed director David Lynch and co-produced and co-written along with a gaggle of musical guests, including Iggy Pop, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Suzanne Vega, Nina Persson, and The Flaming Lips–and that’s only about a third of the star power wattage.
With the massiveness of this release (called Dark Night Of The Soul), it seems only too obvious then that a massive controversy should follow. According to the project’s main website, Danger House is in the midst of a dispute with EMI. As a result, the album is temporarily (permanently?) stalled.
Instead, Danger Mouse is releasing a limited edition, 100-page spread of Lynch’s photographs accompanying the release, along with a blank CD-R labeled “For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.” The album is currently hosted at various torrent websites, along with a full stream on NPR that has no set time of removal.
Sneaky devil, though it does entertain further thought regarding the age of digital downloads, pirating music, and the demise of the traditional industry. Who knows what will come of this? Click “Read More…” to see the full tracklist.
1. “Revenge” (featuring The Flaming Lips) – 4:52
2. “Just War” (featuring Gruff Rhys) – 3:44
3. “Jaykub” (featuring Jason Lytle) – 3:52
4. “Little Girl” (featuring Julian Casablancas) – 4:33
5. “Angel’s Harp” (featuring Black Francis) – 2:57
6. “Pain” (featuring Iggy Pop) – 2:49
7. “Star Eyes (I Can’t Catch It)” (featuring David Lynch) – 3:10
8. “Everytime I’m With You” (featuring Jason Lytle) – 3:09
9. “Insane Lullaby” (featuring James Mercer) – 3:12
10. “Daddy’s Gone” (featuring Mark Linkous and Nina Persson) – 3:09
11. “The Man Who Played God” (featuring Suzanne Vega) – 3:09
12. “Grim Augury” (featuring Vic Chesnutt) – 2:32
13. “Dark Night of the Soul” (featuring David Lynch) – 4:38

With all the excitement (brouhaha) over the newest spring releases (including rumor of the Sticky & Sweet Tour Double DVD ready in time for March?) I’ve nearly forgotten to check back on some of the albums that have been in the works…Pardon me for my forgetfulness!
Nina Persson is releasing the follow-up to her 2001 solo album under the title, A Camp. But before she does that, she’s releasing a lead-off single, entitled “Stronger Than Jesus.”
It’s an arena ballad…Cardigans style! A subtle knock in the direction of the Holy Establishment’s Man of Honor, set to the tune of a sea shanty sway…I’m falling more and more with each replay.
I have to say though, the video was a bit of a letdown.
I mean after all, here I was expecting a glorious boxing match between the Holy Son and a massive, glittery heart-shaped mascot. (I’m picturing a very Steven Klein, Hard Candy boxing ring-inspired set here.)
It would be the fiercest of battles, as every jab and cross thrown by the Heart is thrown in vain; blocked by the power of Christ, which would prove to be quite compelling. As the song built up to its grand finale, the heart would deliver a final, crippling one-two punch directly into the crown of Christ…A stunning defeat!
Upon backing away from the carnage, the heart would turn away slowly, face the camera, and remove its atriums (atriui?) to reveal a demure Leona Lewis, who would then launch into a rather dull, torch song rendition of “Bleeding Love,” as fireworks shot out from her ventricles/ass like a glorious, flaming peacock at the X Factor finale.
Too much to ask? Not enough, my friends…Not enough.
Besides, I believe Beyoncé did something like this already.

Sam Spiegel (perhaps better known as Squeak E. Clean) is, as we all may soon come to realize, the devil. One needs only briefly look over the exhaustive list of indie darlings and pop culture icons (including Karen O, Nina Persson, Lovefoxxx, Tom Waits, and Ghostface Killah) set to lay down their vocals upon his killer debut album, The Spirit of Apollo, in February 2009 to know that for sure. The only explanation of this impossible gathering of talent is dark magick, leading to what will surely become a downward spiral of hellfire and damnation upon the Earth, at last leading us all unto the End Of Days.
But until that day, we’ve got one new track from the release called “Gifted,” which benefits from the assistance of Kanye West on the first verse, Santogold on the second, and Lykke Li in the choruses. A hipster’s wet dream? You bet your sweet girly ass jeans it is. Yet with its uber-slick synthesized production and bouncy, bubbly bass, the Apocalypse has never sounded so sweet.

filed under: Album Review, Britta Persson, Joan Osborne, Lykke Li, Nina Persson, The Cardigans

Alas, my latest Swedish delight to stumble upon! Her name is Britta Persson, a refreshing indie-pop treat. Quite airy like Lykke Li and complete with a country twang in the vein of Nina Persson (of The Cardigans…related?) She released her second album, Hollywood Kill Me, back in January in the motherland of pop, and plans to release worldwide at some point.
The album is a great accompanying piece to the sights and sounds of summer’s return. Britta’s music combines side-stepping rhythm of country western music, echoed, repetitive vocals, and crashing drum beats. She’s got a ’90′s female rocker voice, something quite similar to Joan Osborne. The more memorable songs of the bunch tend to incorporate sudden drum flourishes and building, crashing choruses. The final product isn’t exactly mind blowing, but is soothing none the less. It’s a summer’s breeze of sound, really. That, and Swedish. Don’t forget it. Click below for the video!
