Who’s ready for more Selegenda Gomez?
The pint-sized Disney princess is now gearing up to release a third single from her third studio album When The Sun Goes Down, which was released back in June. The newest selection? “Hit The Lights,” co-penned by electronica duo Dreamlab and Swedish singer-songerwriter Tony Nilsson.
To kick off the campaign, Gomez performed “Hit The Lights” live while fulfilling her duties as host of MTV’s 2011 EMAs this past weekend. And while I couldn’t really shake the feeling that I was watching the talent portion of some mega-budget episode of Toddlers & Tiaras (what with the glitz outfits and catwalk strutting and all), I still love me some Selena. A powerhouse performer she may not be, but…she’s just so damn cute! And happy! And so, so beautiful!
The video for “Hit The Lights” isn’t due to premiere on VEVO until November 16. Until then, Hollywood Records has just unveiled a teaser trailer from the clip, which features the lovely lady swinging ’round some sparklers. I think. Actually, it’s kind of hard to see. Somebody really ought to hit the lights!
“Hit The Lights” will be released in November. (iTunes)

Dave Audé is a name synonymous with all things dance.
From Coldplay to Britney Spears, Madonna to U2, Rihanna to George Michael–Audé has written, remixed and produced with the best of ‘em over the past 20 years, resulting in a formidable discography of literally hundreds of remixes and original releases.
His work can be found included in nearly every pop remix package of the day (recent releases include re-rubs of Beyoncé‘s “Run The World (Girls),” Lady Gaga‘s “Judas” and Jennifer Lopez‘s “I’m Into You), firmly cementing his role as one of the industry’s most consistently in demand producers.
A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to speak with Audé as he prepared to head into the studio with singer Sisely Treasure, formerly of both Cooler Kids and Shiny Toy Guns (who I also spoke to briefly!)
We talked at length about the state of dance music today–including current trends like dubstep–as well as many of Audé’s successes over the past 20 years, including the highs (Sting, t.A.T.u.) and the sorta-kinda highs (Madonna was “a weird moment.”) There was also ample talk about Selena Gomez.
There is even–in what was undoubtedly my greatest, MuuMuse-iest journalistic moment to date–a point at which I interrupted the prolific producer mid-sentence as he began to discuss John Lennon‘s musical impact to ask about his work with Nicole Scherzinger.
You’re welcome.

And now: The 2011 MTV VMA’s Tribute to Britney Spears.
As with anything Spears-related, there was a whole lot of hype beforehand: Would Godney take to the VMA stage once again in a moment of redemption with a triumphant, show-stopping performance of “Hold It Against Me”? Would the stage be crawling with A-list pop stars paying tribute to Britney, including some weird, stupid Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus 3-way action as promulgated by the overly horny rumor mongers of BreatheHeavy’s stan-o-torium, Exhale? No, no…there was none of that whatsoever.
After an awkwardly long introductory speech by Lady Gaga–I’m sorry, I mean Jo Calderone (which was more or less just a speech about Britney’s influence on, well, Lady Gaga), a tiny fleet of little ladies ran out to deliver their, err…homage: A dance!
In what must have been…oh I don’t know, approximately 45 seconds, the little girls served us their best Baby’s First Hip-Hop Recital moves against a turbo speed mega-mix of the teensiest sliver of Britney’s musical output over the past 13 years. It was pretty cute, aside from the unforgivable ‘sexy’ gyrations that would have Pedobear grinning from ear to ear.
But don’t worry: There’s more! Out trudged Gaga once again–sorry, Jo Calderone, ugh–to present the award to a beaming-but-clearly-nervous Britney.
I’m sorry, did I say present? I meant deliver the world’s most indulgent, annoying character piece (that mercifully carried on throughout the entire night!) while sneering, laying on gross flirty lines and giving Britney those incredibly rape-y bedroom eyes. Soon enough, the two awkwardly stood eye-to-eye, just about to kiss. But from somewhere deep within, Britney looked to the light and saw Jesus: She pulled away and rejected the Gaga, exclaiming: “No, I’ve done that already!”
Ha HA! So funny! Love you, Brit Brit! And then she took to the microphone and started…introducing Beyonce! Because apparently introducing Beyonce to the stage is the new acceptance speech! And then she…um, kept praising Beyonce! And then Gaga started talking about…Beyonce! And then everyone just sort of looked around…and then Beyonce took to the stage! And that was it.
Wait…WHAT?!
Now look: I’m not shading the little ladies that danced. Good job, girls! Good job. But as for the rest of this hot mess express: REALLY?! Of the entire “tribute,” 60% of the time was dedicated to Gaga’s showy performance as Jo Calderone, 35% an introduction to Beyonce’s upcoming performance, and 5% actual dedication to The Holy Spearit.
Simply put, there was no actual tribute to Britney during the MTV Tribute to Britney Spears. Sure, there were some little ones dancing to her videos, but that’s nothing I don’t already serve up on a nightly basis alone in my room in my underwear. A 30 second video message beamed in from Madonna or Janet Jackson would have been a hundred times more legendary, or even 10 seconds of Britney saying something about her decade-long career other than a humble “Thank you” and shout-out to Michael Jackson in between Gaga’s awful rambling. ANYTHING!
As a lifelong fan of Spears, the tribute was nothing short of an insult.
Later in the night, we would watch as Katy Perry accepted the award for “Firework” as the Best Video of the Year while wearing a giant yellow block on her head, thus–as I tweeted earlier–skillfully placing a giant fail-sized cheese cherry on top of this truly incredible shit sundae.
As Britney once said in For The Record: I’m sad.
STOP. BREATHING.
Selegenda Gomezmerizing has just unveiled a preview of the video for upcoming single “Love You Like A Love Song” (which is set to debut in full Thursday on The Disney Channel) and it is–to no one’s surprise in particular–without a single flaw. (WATCH HERE)
The video for “Love You Like A Love Song” looks to be the focal point of this decade-inspired When The Sun Goes Down era (not unlike a certain Godney commercial!), as the enchanting pop starlet frolics ’round in technicolor as a ’70′s hippie, dons some massive shades for a chic ’80′s look, and even breaks out the puffy white wig of an Enlightenment-era woman (which she undoubtedly stole from Christina‘s collection when the bitch was busy turned around in that chair on The Voice.)
ALSO, SHE HULA HOOPS.
Said Marie Antoinette while watching the teaser and angrily forking a slice of red velvet cake into her mouth: “Fuck this ho.”
FLAWLESS ANGEL SPIRIT REMAINS FLAWLESS.

STOP. LIFE.
Can you hear that? Yes, Muusers: It’s the sound of the Holy Spearit flowing through your speakers.
“Whiplash” is the latest leak from Selegenda Gomezmerizing‘s upcoming studio album When The Sun Goes Down, produced by bouncy-pop maestro Greg Kurstin and co-penned by Electrocute‘s Nicole Morier (“Heaven On Earth,” “Mmm Papi”) and the living legend herself, Godney Spears.
The song is essentially what would happen if Rachel Stevens were to make her grand return in 2011, hovering somewhere in between the brilliant electro-glitter of “Some Girls” and “Waiting Game.” It’s fucking fantastic: It’s got a real gritty, sauntering beat, spacey synthesizers and even includes spoken word bridges done in a British accent…and you just KNOW Britney came up with that shit.
STUCK. ON. REPEAT. Come on and take me to the other side!
ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY SELEGENDA.
When The Sun Goes Down will be released on June 28. (iTunes)
Ahoy, matey!
Unless you’ve been twirling ’round a desert for a year without rain, you’d know that Selegenda Gomez is about to drop her third studio album on June 28 on Hollywood Records: When The Sun Goes Down.
In advance of the upcoming LP, the 18-year-old teenage dream/flawless legend will be gracing the pages of next week’s Billboard Magazine, looking effortlessly chic and glamorous on the front cover as a ’50′s pin-up sailor girl.
The article explores Selena’s transition from being promoted as a Disney star to carving out her own path as a full-fledged singer, along with the various ways in which her latest album–including the lead single “Who Says?”–is being promoted in today’s market, as well as offering some insight into the album’s creation.
From the article:
Her promotional activities since the single’s release have all been directed at an audience that most likely has never seen an episode of “Wizards of Waverly Place.” She has already appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” and “Late Show With David Letterman.” Upcoming stops include “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” “Good Morning America” and “Today.”
“In the last two years she’s gone from a novice to someone who stands for something — with a real audience,” [Abbey] Konowitch [GM of Hollywood Records] says. “Her song selection is about messages. What’s important is that people have learned to respect Selena as the artist we think she is. Not just the consumers, but the industry and the gatekeepers . . . People want to work with her. People believe she can be big. But the stars have to align. Those stars have not aligned for others.”
The article also explores Gomez’s brand as both a Disney star and a style icon, including this gem from the president of Fox 2000:
“She’s become a style icon with the tweens and teens,” Fox 2000 president Elizabeth Gabler says. “Classy but sassy.”
Do you see? DO YOU SEE?! MuuMuse and Selegenda: Keeping it strictly classy sassy until the end of time. Naturally.
The gorgeous and talented Selena Gomezmerizing keeps the promo train rolling in support of her forthcoming studio album When The Sun Goes Down with the release of her next iTunes Countdown single: “Bang Bang Bang.”
Keeping it strictly ’80′s electro-pop (somewhat similar in sound to Ashlee Simpson‘s deeply under-appreciated “Boys”), Gomez taunts her triflin’ ex by recounting all the ways her new man is just, like, so much better: “My new boy knows the way I want it / He’s got more swagga than you,” she knowingly taunts. My, my!
All stanning aside, “Bang Bang Bang” is truly a fun electro-pop kiss-off track–and if you can forget that the “new boy” is actually “Justin Bieber,” the song suddenly becomes way, WAY less creepy!
GET IT, SELEGENDA!
“Bang Bang Bang” was released on June 7. (iTunes)
QUIT BEATING YOUR GUMS AND PAY ATTENTION.
Selegenda Gomez is all dolled up for the flapper-tastic album cover of her third studio album, When The Sun Goes Down–due out on June 28.
Lady Gomezmerizing sure looks swell, doesn’t she? Takes me to another place! I’m already busy cleaning out my bathtub to start brewing the Giggle Water. SUFFRAGE! SUFFRAGE! Now mind your beeswax Mac, and let’s make whoopee already! Applesauce!
