One more post before I go to bed. A brand new track from Moby’s upcoming Last Night has leaked. In his journal, Moby says “Disco Lies” is featured somewhere in Cloverfield. I can’t vouch for the man, but I have a feeling he’s probably telling the truth.

Anyway, the song’s hot. It’s a good ol’ write-you-off disco track with plenty of feeling, but I feel like I’ve heard it before for some reason. Is it sampling something? Let me know.

P.S. Album’s coming out on March 10.

579e040b9f12bfff42eca85382565c92 Madita TooI know I’ve spoken about Madita roughly 400 times now, but her new album was just released on iTunes. Therefore, I took the liberty of reviewing it. Forgive me.

“I’m falling too deep,” Madita croons off of the opening track “Better Brother” from her upcoming album too, released January 25, 2008. Breathy as an Imogen Heap track and riddled with hand claps and spurts of synthesizer, “Better Brother” leads off the album with an electro-tinge of seductive energy and playfulness that threads itself throughout the entirety of the CD. But who is Madita, you ask? Why, what a brilliant question!

Born in Austria thirty years ago, Madita has only recently broken into the music scene after lending her vocal skills on dZihan and Kamien’s acclaimed album “Gran Riserva” back in 2002. In 2006, she released her self-titled debut album, and has since returned for another for 2008. As it was with her debut album, Madita continues to puzzle her listeners with often incomprehensible lyrical choices and quirky musical stylings. Take for example, the first verse of “Love Is…” in which the singer coos: “calling up to prove / I knew my goal is you / tons of butter flew /into slippery moves.” Okay, perhaps one could make a case for “butter” to be vastly metaphorical, but there’s no explanation for her constant disregard for verb tense, demonstrated both within this track and throughout the album. Grammatical nonsense aside, Madita’s music does more than make up for the occasional gaps in logic. The new album is a stronger accomplishment than its predecessor, containing developing maturity and deeper understanding of sound.

Like the album track, “Deeper Down,” the album sways unpredictably between sultry acid jazz to piano pop, similar to the music of fellow electro-jazz music makers, Bitter:Sweet. One of the largest departures within the album happens to be its lead single, “Because.” With a piano chord progression dangerously similar to Feist’s “My Moon, My Man,” some may be quick to criticize. However, as soon as the vocals kick in, Madita’s soulful vocal ability erases any lingering comparison between the two songs. Madita’s vocals are richly powerful; a combination of the sweetly affected voice of Gwen Stefani and the ripping intensity of Shingai Shoniwa, the lead singer of the Noisettes. Throughout the album, there are plenty of highlights to be found, with hardly a trace of filler. “Love Is…,” for example, starts off as a muted paper-thin ode, slowly building and eventually bursting into a deep, pulsating track, while “Fragile” and “You” conjure visions of smoke-filled bars and lounge singers swaying around their microphones. Then there’s “September,” which plays like the Bond theme you’ve never heard.

Part swing, part jazz, and always a bit electronic, Madita’s latest offering is rich in sound and beauty. The songs may be too playful for some and too frenetic for others, but for those with a sweet spot for something both eccentric and electric, Madita’s latest release should not be missed. Look for Madita’s too on iTunes, or pay a little extra for the physical release from her official website: www.madita.com.

c817ed5f72c93dbeadbc315a60221ce3 Daily B: Leaky AND Flaky

A consistently reliable source from the StarsVIP forum has posted the supposed tracklisting of the two-disc demo that Britney was seen toting around for the past few years. It includes the working titles of all of the tracks we’ve heard on Blackout, plus a few new ones. I’d dismiss this as bull, except not only are all of these tracks confirmed by the producers, but one of them leaked today (“All That She Wants,” see previous post from today if you missed it.)

Money, sex, and souls have been offered to the man claiming to have them. I think I put a few of my appendages and cherished possessions on the offering list at some point as well… Time will tell if he’ll leak it in full. Until then, we still have about 60% of these demos, which were leaked in September/October.

Click “read more” to see the full track list of supposed demos.

Additionally, she showed up to the courthouse for today’s custody hearing, but not the courtroom. Baby steps! First the building, now inside the courthouse. I’m not going to venture a guess for next month’s custody hearing…she may even make it to the door this time!

a6aabc8b9cf239f7d852df3f51970bc5 Lord Have MercyWelsh-born Duffy is expected, along with Adele, to be one of the top British artists to watch in 2008. You know the kind…oh so popular in the U.K. until American audiences finally catch wind and snatch them from the country. I originally wrote her off as an old-school revival copycat, until I accidentally stumbled onto the video for her new single. She’s got a colorful history, working in a fishery, a jazz club, and coming in second place on Welsh’s version of Pop Idol, Wawffactor (America: Consider this for a possible re-titling of American Idol.)

Of course, Duffy has been dealt plenty of comparisons to fellow contemporary “old-school” singer Amy Winehouse, though I can’t find much similarity in the overall style of their sound. Winehouse is more of a real deal soulful singer with the ability to invoke the rawest form of Motown soul, whereas Duffy is more breezy-pop and showy, lacking the gritty and biting vocals that only Winehouse can possess. Now, I happen to like the new single a great deal. She reminds me of Dusty Springfield and a bit of Nancy Sinatra. I still prefer my crazy Amy if compared, but Duffy’s “Mercy” is still a refreshing, melodic, and overall fun track to sing along to. Plus she’s easy on the eyes, and her hair appears to have been washed at some point in the last week. Not that Amy isn’t a raving beauty in her own right, but sometimes hygiene is sexy. And not that Amy isn’t hygenic, but–well, okay. You know she probably smells. Just saying.

Duffy’s new album, entitled Rockferry is due March 3, 2008. Click on the “read more” for the tracklisting.

b5a8edc439e022853e18126d966fe479 New Britney!
A new Britney song has cropped up unexpectedly on YouTube! I have no details regarding it’s release or recording date, but this is 100% Britney. It’s partially a cover of the song “All That She Wants,” though after some digging up in the BMK forums, it appears that the verse lyrics are pulled straight from the poem that she wrote on her official site back in May 2006, “Remembrance of Who I Am.” Read on for the full poem’s contents. The song itself reminds me a lot of Utada Hikaru’s “A.S.A.P,” which can be found in this video here. Ah yes, and as a self-proclaimed Britney expert, I can tell you exclusively that this was most likely one of those off-sessions where Britney thought she was being incredibly edgy and different for recording this one. Not that I don’t still love her, but her “smarter” tracks are always so damn unpolished. “Mona Lisa” (Original Version) is still one of her most underrepresented tracks, though.

Anyway, this is all so very exciting, so have yourselves a listen.

Remembrance of Who I Am
May 22, 2006

No more chains
That you gave me.
Enough of pain
Now I’m craving
Something sweet, so delight
How do you stand sleeping at night?

Silly patterns that we follow
You pull me in
I’m being swallowed.
By the ones you think you love
They pull you down
You can’t see up above.

Manipulation is the key
They screw it in
Because you’re naive.

You come to me now
Why do you bother?
Remember the Bible
The sins of the Father.
What you do
You pass down
No wonder why
I lost my crown.

You don’t see me now
You ask yourself why
My crown is back
And it’s way too high
For you to be in my presence
Especially my son
You should bow down
I’ve only just begun.

The guilt you fed me
Made me weak.
The voodoo you did
I couldn’t speak.

You’re awakening
The phone is ringing.
Resurrection of my soul
The fear I’m bringing.

What will you say
And what will you do?
She’s not the same person that you’re used to.

You trick me one, twice, now it’s three.
Look who’s smiling now
Damn, it’s good to be me!

*This is for everyone who thinks they know me…
