MamaMuuse Presents: The Video Premiere of Christina Aguilera’s “You Lost Me”
Filed in: Anthony Mandler, Christina Aguilera, MamaMuuse, Video Premiere
Like the Maggie Griffin to my Kathy, my mother is slowly but surely beginning to leech off of my hard earned e-celebrity status and steal away my beloved Muusers with her MamaMuuse review posts.
Nonetheless, I’ve allowed for another installment of MamaMuuse Presents.
Below is my mother’s actual e-mail response upon watching the Anthony Mandler-directed video for Christina Aguilera‘s latest single, “You Lost Me”:
Christina’s bitch factor went through the roof with the video you sent me the other day ["Not Myself Tonight"], so I have to admit I just plain don’t like her.
Although bitchiness is usually a trait I can relate to and respect, I still think of her as the slutty, dirty girl. And quite frankly, bitchiness without class is just bitterness. So how do I feel about the video? Meh. Or make that meh-a-meh-a-meh-a-meh-a-meh.
As always, her voice is flawless, but the song doesn’t really do it for me. The video itself started out as a Sealy Posturepedic ad and moved to the headless, faceless body of a man with more going on than The Situation. I guess I can see why she pushed him away – she’s got Jordan Bratman, that heaping helping of beefcake, waiting for her at home.
On the plus side – I love her new look (even if someone took advantage of Restylene’s Buy One Get One Free special). Now that, Christina, is the right way to be a bitch!
Now please, stop encouraging her. The fame is clearly getting to her head.
Oh, what? You want my opinion?
It’s nice. I think she looks quite gorgeous. Shame about those brief ‘thermal energy’ moments at the beginning, though.

The Sealy Posturepedic ad comment…I can’t…hahaha
Can I please spend a week with this woman? She is amazing. So jealous that she’s your momma.
MamaMuuse should have her own blog section!
I concur with Cyber.
Your mom clearly doesn’t look at things on an objective level. The video starts out with a gun smoking as Christina is in pitch black darkness. Why? She’s just killed herself . The song has nothing to do with a relationship but writer (Sia), singer (Christina), & director (Anthony) will make no direct reference to this as RCA is shopping it as a “Summer break up anthem” although it could be a double entendre it is most certainly not. “We’re left as shells, we’re lost to find” are the best lyrics in the song to support my “claim” (FACT) The “you’ve” she’s referencing is “our world” obviously. Or not so much? After the opening she is in a dream-like room that’s suppose to represent her past, dirt, filth & lies. After departing from that room she is in a sort of pre-hell world laying on coal until the whole scene turns orange representing hell. The male who comes over (tan as can be) is suppose to represent negativity or in a more creative way ‘the devil’. Notice how it never shows his face nor does it show him in real time. That’s because he’s not suppose to be a human or real he’s suppose to be a figment of her imagination. It’s all a figment of her imagination until she enters the next scene, purgatory. Before entering purgatory she takes off her blouse (it’s mighty hot in hell, lol) She’s in purgatory for only a couple of seconds before she enters heaven (obviously the 2nd to last scene where the background and her clothing are all white. After heaven she becomes very “angelic like” clearly representing that she is “complete” and at peace. As the video fades away you’ll notice a halo accumulating her entire being. I’m pretty sure none of the people involved in this song/video such as Christina, Sia, or Anthony are religious so it was more of a creative thing to symbolize the current state of the world hence the lyrics in the chorus “I feel like our worlds been infected, but somehow you’ve left me neglected.” The (you’ve) that she’s referring to is “our world” Christina is very in tune to life & what’s going on around her I mean come on she’s the ‘global spokesperson for world hunger relief efforts’ & songs on the new album like “Bionic” “Birds of Prey” ‘You Lost Me’ “Monday Morning” & so on are deeper than they appear no matter how mundane the lyrics may sound. How do I know all this? Don’t worry about it
Oh and here’s a quote from the director Anthony Mandler about the concept of the video: “We are about to watch something that is going to move and transform us. In the end we’ve traveled through Christina’s world. One that is physically, mentally and spiritually charged. Nothing is what it seems. Everything is fractured and evolving, falling away… Read between the lines. I love being introspective and seeing everything so transparently!!
