“Bring Your Love”: Madonna & Sabrina Carpenter Have Something to Say

Short n’ Sticky & Sweet.

“I’ve got something I want to talk about…”

“BRING YOUR LOVE,” the first, official, real lead single from Confessions II is here…and it’s an undeniable hit.

Madonna and Stuart Price co-wrote and co-produced the track, with additional production by PARISI, the Italian duo who work with Fred again.. and Swedish House Mafia.

After showing love to Lil Louis on “I Feel So Free,” the “I’m Going Bananas” icon keeps the tributes to fellow trailblazers coming with a songwriting credit for Inner City’s essential, oft-sampled 1988 House classic “Good Life,” which you know from Britney’s ‘Femme Fatale’ banger, “Up n’ Down.” (Cue the mash-ups in 3, 2…)

It’s only appropriate Madonna would also pull from one of the most influential artists of our time: herself.

The track evokes everything from “Vogue” to “Deeper & Deeper” to “Express Yourself” (“‘Cause I got something to say about it”), with plenty of sultry spoken word, adding to my ongoing Erotica Dressed in Confessions’ (Stolen) Clothing thesis about this upcoming album.

If Part 1 was a hat (riding helmet) tip to the disco era, this one is almost certainly rooted in House, which would be a logical progression of her Dance Floor.

The Short ’n Sticky & Sweet sisters make one fierce tag-team on “Bring Your Love,” flicking a middle finger to the vibe killers criticizing their every move. Like so, so many of M’s self-empowering classics before, don’t ever tell her (or Sabrina) to stop.

“You cannot shake me. You’ll never break me.”

(Favorite line is the casual threat: “I know where the bodies are buried. Don’t try to shut me up.” Gulp.)

As for Sabrina Carpenter? Motha asked her to bring it…and she did.

It’s fun to hear her sultry, wink-wink persona purr through such sweaty, euphoric beats. She’s cementing her staying power after years of putting in the work. And like their Coachella performance, the two pair incredibly well together in song form, proving there’s a method to Madonna’s madness, despite some early fan doubts about the duo.

Nice of these two to provide us with the Song of the Summer so early.

What a fantastic start to a new album era. What a time to be a Madonna fan.
