The anticipation for Marina + The Diamonds‘ upcoming album only seems to grow exponentially with each new song that surfaces these days.
Following the release of her unbelievably incredible Stargate-produced single “Radioactive” at the end of September, the indie-pop UK songstress has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on her as-of-yet untitled sophomore effort, due out sometime in 2012.
Enter “Starring Role”: A brand new track that just leaked today, rumored to have been recorded for the upcoming album. If that’s the case, no wigs are safe when Marina unleashes Album #2, because this new tune’s as absolutely brilliant as her latest single.
Stretched across a minimal, slow-building electronic beat, Marina positively seethes about a lover that’s not quite reciprocating in the emotional department. Though the song’s producer is still unconfirmed, its electro-organic feel reminds me of Guy Sigsworth‘s productions (Imogen Heap, Alanis Morrissette), or even a tinge of William Orbit‘s chillier work on Madonna‘s Ray Of Light.
But the true genius of this one? The writing. Lyrically, “Starring Role” is absolutely stellar. The balance between fragile and furious works perfectly. A few examples:
When you’re in my bed, all you give me is a heartbeat.
The only time you open up is when we get undressed.
You don’t love me, big fucking deal/I’ll never tell you how I feel.
I’d rather walk alone than play a supporting role.
Sometimes I ignore you so I feel in control/’Cause really I adore you, and I can’t leave you alone.
Amazing. Between this and “Radioactive,” are we looking at an early contender for Album of 2012? Certainly seems that way.
EDIT: Marina herself uploaded the song to YouTube over the weekend. Listen now!
“Radioactive” was released on September 30. (iTunes)
Rebecca & Fiona – “Hard”
Haven’t heard of DJ duo Rebecca & Fiona yet? You probably have in some capacity, but sit down and get cozy anyway–you’re going to be glad you did.
The stunning Swedish twosome have been making waves in their homeland for over the past two years, beginning with the release of their debut single: “Luminary Ones.” “It’s been a long time since I’ve had some fun,” the girls chant listlessly above the song’s dark, throbbing pulsations, bringing to mind the electro-pop ferocity of Cat5 (“Stretch & Bend”) and the hypnotic trance beats of Kleerup (Robyn‘s “With Every Heartbeat,” for instance.)
Since then, the girls have only continued to be dominate on their path of reckless amazingness–from “Bullets” (which MuuMuse contributor Sam Lansky spotlighted in his first installment of Amazing Things I’m Listening To From Sweden) to an opening spot on Queen of Swede-Pop Robyn’s European tour.
They even snagged themselves their own reality show at some point based on their lives as DJs/producers (which I haven’t seen quite yet, but I’m going to assume it’s something like a Swedish version of The Hills. Which one’s Heidi?)
Most recently, the duo unleashed their manically delicious “Jane Doe” earlier this month; a song with enough bubbling electronica to have the Pet Shop Boys foaming at the mouth and enough chilly, echoed vocals to keep the ghoulish Halloween feeling alive well past October. It’s incredible–no, it’s absolutely EVERYTHING.
(But if the accompanying video above is anything to go by, you wouldn’t want to have this bickering duo as your new roomies. For God’s sake, learn to share a mirror you two!)
Rebecca & Fiona also made a guest appearance on “Turn It Down,” the searing collaboration found on DJ Kaskade‘s new album Fire & Ice, and arguably one of the best tracks on the entire record.
Oh, and by the way: Rebecca & Fiona released their debut album I Love You Man today in Sweden, and it’s easily one of the best records of 2011. I’m absolutely F-L-O-O-R-E-D. Swedish dance-pop perfection. Track it down now.
I Love You Man was released on November 16. (iTunes)
Brace yourselves for literally the worst news you’ve ever heard in your entire life…ever.
Rachel Stevens, flawless ex-S Club 7 member, Jewish Pop Princess, and songstress behind one of the ’00′s greatest pop albums of all time (2005′s Come And Get It), has quietly recorded a third studio album. The problem?
IT’S A CHILDREN’S ALBUM.
Yes, you heard me right: A children’s album. Like, for babies. Not for adults. Not pop music–baby music.
The album is called Tasty Tunes (I just vomited), a 5-track collection that the new mother recorded in order to teach her daughter about healthy eating.
From Sexy Stevens:
Rachel Stevens has recorded a collection of songs about fruit and veg to encourage kids to eat their five-a-day. The former S Club 7 star has performed a number of well-known nursery rhymes with a food twist to help youngsters to get into healthy eating habits. The songs are available as free downloads from children’s food firm Ella’s Kitchen following research which showed that engaging with fruit and vegetables outside meal-times encouraged them to eat.
Rachel Stevens – “Yummy, Yummy, Yum”
If you particularly hate your life, you can have a listen to a few of songs right here, including “In The Fruit Bowl On The Tree” and (GULP) “Yummy, Yummy, Yum.” (What are the odds one of these was produced by Xenomania?)
Like, okay: I get it. You’re a mom now. That’s amazing. But you also recorded “So Good.” And “Crazy Boys.” And “Some Girls.” You can’t just do this to us. What about US, Rachel?! WHAT ABOUT US?!
While you’re at it Stevens, you might as well record a complete children’s edition of all your past hits! Think of all the options you have: “Sweet Dreams My Snuggly Wuggly Widdle Boo Bear,” “So Goo-Goo,” “Breathe In, Burp Out,” and even “I Said Never Again (BRB Changing A Diaper).” UGH. JUST BREAK MY HEART FOREVER, OKAY?!
To prevent me from drowning myself in a giant tub of Gerber’s pureed bananas, let’s reflect on a better time–a simpler time. A time when music was good and Rachel Stevens was not recording songs called “Yummy, Yummy, Yum.”
Sigh…
BABIES RUIN LIVES.
BOW DOWN.
A legend appears: Flawlesstina, Empress of Former Flopitude, just uploaded a photo on Twitter late this evening.
With those luscious bubblegum pink lips, flowing golden locks and that peachy airbrush complexion–I’m sorry, did you hear that? That was the sound of a thousand wigs being snatched off in the distance.
“Getting my glam on today for a special shoot! XoXtina,” the Pop Goddess tweeted. But what kind of a special shoot? New music? Or is it for the second season of The Voice (due to which I am now famous and very rich, bitch)? Or perhaps for Secret Potion, Xtina’s sensuously stinky intoxicating new scent?
We just can’t be sure. We don’t have all the facts yet. But as one can plainly see, the yodeling Snooki Monster of yesterday has been slayed. Queen Legendtina has once again risen to her throne (made of unsold Bionic albums, as I noted in the New York Times) as a full-on Hollywood glamour girl. And the haters? Why, they stay mad. They stay mad.
Let’s get glam, bitches…
Nope, this ain’t Princess RiRi‘s new single: “Fuck With You” is the newly surfaced collaboration between French House DJ Bob Sinclar and UK disco chanteuse Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
While I’d never expected to hear the straitlaced dance floor diva getting as frisky as she does on top of Sinclar’s funky guitar strums and pulsing disco beats (“Take me on a trip around the moon/I want to fuck with you,” she dreamily croons across the chorus), it mostly works–even though there’s something a bit off about hearing the icy-voiced “Murder On The Dancefloor” chanteuse lovingly singing “fuck” on repeat. It just feels…I don’t know. Wrong.
Prim and proper pop star gone potty mouth aside, the true drawback of this production? An entirely unnecessary rap two-thirds into the song: “I’mma fuck you then fuck your friend,” the mystery man offers. A kind gesture, but…well, you’re making things even more awkward for everyone. It’s just too much. IS JUST TOO MACH!!!
According to the video’s description (and my dicey Google Translate skills), “Fuck With You” is the lead single from Sinclar’s upcoming album Disco Crash, due out in January of 2012.
Disco Crash will be released in January of 2012. (iTunes)
THIS IS TRULY THE GREATEST DAY OF ALL DAYS EVER.
As every good Brit Brit stan knows, the “Sweet Dreams” interlude from The Circus Tour: Starring Britney Spears is literally one of the best things ever in history.
I mean…hello: It’s Britney (bitch), looking fucking flawless as fuck, flipping her hair and serving smoldering eyes while getting it on in a masquerade smut-a-thon as Marilyn Manson‘s cover of The Eurythmics‘ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” loudly howls in the background. It’s absolutely EVERYTHING.
And now, we finally have it in full, glorious high quality.

If there was ever a modern equivalent to Madonna‘s Sex (AKA “Erotica”), this is that moment–without question. EDIT: OKAY, SO THAT WAS A BIT MUCH. But it’s still very Sex-lite!
ENJOY.
God, I love it when two of my loves come together!
“Look Who’s Talking” is one of the tracks on K-Pop Queen BoA‘s 2009 self-titled debut English album. But as we knew from the album’s liner notes, the song was originally co-scribed by the Living Legend, the sensual seductress, the enchanting mistress: Miss Britney Spears.
According to BMI, “Look Who’s Talking” was originally recorded and registered by The Holy Spearit, Bloodshy & Avant and Michelle Bell.
Together, Bell and Brit Brit crafted several tracks for the ever-mysterious Original Doll sessions in 2005, right in between In The Zone and Blackout, including “Like I’m Fallin’” (BMI) and “Ouch” (BMI).
Now, a 30-second snippet of Britney’s original demo has leaked.
Look Who’s Talking Snippet by eyelovelefteye
How’s it sound? Good obviously–it features Godney’s flawless vocals! The song’s sort of like a pre-”Piece Of Me” taunt (a lil’ bit of “Rebellion” if you will), so it wouldn’t really suit Britney at this stage in her life. BUT…it’s a fun treat to hear nonetheless!
To celebrate this mash-up of BoA/Britney goodness, let us now remember the moment when the two met in person while Britney was promoting In The Zone in South Korea. My favorite moment? Probably when Britney figures out what to do with the hand muff BoA gifts her at around the 1:15 mark and the audience literally FREAKS THE FUCK OUT.
AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Slayed back then, still slayed now. So cute/amazing/everything!
BEGIN FREAKING OUT NOW.
